Neighbourhood: Montparnasse
The namesake tower of Montparnasse dominates over the landscape but the fun part is the throbbing life that goes on below it. Bright lights, busy cinemas, brasseries and diners encompass hidden museums and parks to entertain the masses. Long avenues lead away from the tower to take you to unsuspecting places and historical monuments and treasures. In between lie adorable ivy-covered houses with beams and small gardens to match. Just a short metro ride away from the centre of Paris this neighbourhood has something for every hour of the day.

Excellent cheeses, and pleasant and helpful staff
Oct 2013 • Friends
This shop is in Rue Raymond Losserand, between five and ten level minutes' walk from Gare du Montparnasse in Paris' 14eme Quartier. It's devoted to cheeses - all of them French - and more than worth the effort of finding it. The shop is of moderate size and the staff are all helpful. Prices are reasonable, the choice is wide ranging, and the cheeses are kept in excellent conditions so that the stock is at its best all the time. (The St Felicien seemed particularly good when we visited Ferme de Plaisance.) Any cheeses bought can be vacuum-packed on site, which is a great help if you're travelling far. It's easy to spend a long time in this shop and it would be even easier to spend a lot of money there, despite the reasonable prices, because of the very wide-ranging choice. Now that we've found the shop, it will certainly become a stopping point on every visit that we make to Paris.
