Well worth a visit
Feb 2020
This is a small museum offering a great collection of art. When we visited there was an exhibition of Naive art. Pre-booking is advised.

Excellent exhibition of naive painters
Feb 2020
The naive painters exhibition in the Maillol museum is a hidden gem. This relatively small museum is a very pleasant background for the collection of works that leave you smiling and happy to enjoy them.

Very interesting, different museum

We had seen this museum listed but never knew what it was. It is charming and interesting about Maillol and his work, but we especially enjoyed the specific exhibition that was playing. The museum is small enough that you can spend time enjoying it without feeling overwhelmed and pressured to move on to be sure you see everything.

Hidden Gem
Dec 2019 • Friends
The museum is a hidden gem, which is tucked away so easy to miss. They have high calibre temporary exhibitions. The current one is on Henri Rousseau and primitive artists and is fabulous. The permanent collection is interesting but only warrants a visit in isolation if you are a big fan of Maillol’s sculpture. The downstairs restaurant is great - in terms of decor, food and service.

A little pricey but enjoyable visit
Nov 2019 • Solo
One day I walked past Musée Maillol on my way to Musée d’Orsay and saw the poster of its temporary exhibition From Douanier Rousseau to Seraphine.

Since I wanted to do something new, I visited this relatively small museum for the first time on the day I left Paris before going to the airport. It’s a Sunday afternoon so there’re quite a lot of (but not too many) visitors. The temporary exhibition was interesting and provided an opportunity to see the works of some lesser known artists.

The price of admission (13.5 euros) was a little pricey though.

A gem
Oct 2019
We had tickets to the Musee d'orsay but when we got there the queue was ridiculous so we decided to visit the Musee Maillol instead. What a good decision. This is a small museum which has visiting exhibitions as well as the permanent collection. We saw an exhibition about the "modern primitives" which was excellent. Look it out on your visit as it is worth visiting. There is also a lovely cafe in the basement to stop and have a coffee or more if you feel like it. We will certainly see what exhibition is on next time we visit Paris.

Featuring The Great Naive Masters
Oct 2019 • Couples
From the Douanier Rousseau To Seraphine , these portrait landscape referred to as naive painters focused on representing their everyday environments..We were not aware of these artists but were very pleased to view their delicate truths they represented in their everyday lives.. we were 100% pleased that we decided to visit this exhibit and museum for the first time

Excellent small museum
Sep 2019
As an ignorant tourist with terrible French I thought this was a museum of swimwear. But in fact it represents the artist Maillol, active at the turn of the century and early C20th. Also featuring temporary exhibitions of his contemporaries. A chance to see some of the less internationally renowned but very interesting artists from this time.

For an enjoyable museum visit skip the Louvre and come here

Wonderful and comprehensive exhibition of the Great French Naive Masters from Rousseau to Seraphine Louis. The small museum itself is a pleasure to visit, not too crowded so you have ample time and space to admire the artworks which are beautifully presented. Helpful staff who cheerfully guided us to an elevator to accommodate a disabled visitor. An extra plus for the pleasant terrace cafe and the small well stocked gift shop.
