Neighbourhood: Saint-Germain-des-Prés
In Saint-Germain-des-Prés, life is effortlessly chic and all things are beautiful. The main boulevard is dotted with famed terraced cafés, haut-couture shops, ivy-covered railings and fine-dining restaurants. Antique dealers and art galleries surround the fine art school and small museums hide in unassuming squares. The neighbourhood’s namesake church is the oldest in Paris and is the backdrop for talented musicians every weekend. The Luxembourg Gardens house the national senate, splendid lawns and flourishing flower beds. Famous faces and bourgeois Parisians frequent Saint Germain accompanied by the students of Rue Saint Guillaume and Rue des Saints-Pères. This is a neighbourhood where afternoon people-watching from a café or playing cards in a brasserie are a key part of the daily fabric.

It has evolved into an upscale neighborhood with great shopping and eating. Good place to look for antiques, but beware, prices can be high. Also the HQ of the publishing industry in France. Saint Germain area has really great vibe. All cafes, bars and restaurant. In sunny days, this is really cool place to be. Just walking around, sit outside of a restaurant and just look around.

I was a little surprised at how luxury shopping has taken over this neighborhood. Between the traditional antique stores and the newer designer clothing and handbag outlets, there seems to be little for the average person. Even the cafes and restaurants have become too upscale. Still there is a lot of history here with the ancient church and its religious community, plus the historic beatnik cafes.

Have been to Paris many times and usually stay in 5th Arrondissement, but stayed here this time and it is my new favorite. Lots of small shops and friendly cafes. Lovely evening strolling to people watch; have a glass of wine or a scoop of ice cream. Places open late which is wonderful. Very safe and very tidy. Close to Luxembourg Gardens if you like to exercise this is a fabulous place to run. My young adult daughter loved staying here. Highly recommend.

Saint Germain des Pres Quarter is a very special and in some ways, historical quarter of Paris. There are some good museums and some lovely cafes, like Le Procope, where intellectuals used to meet in days gone by. Philosophers, poets, artists and the like. It is an interesting part of the city to wander around.

I had a lovely long walk through saint germain on a warm day this past august. It was beautiful to walk through the quaint streets with charming boutiques and eateries. Especially enjoyed the covered areas with specialty shops.

It is the oldest still standing church (built in the 6th century) in the city of Paris. Part of it was under renovation, but I got beautiful pictures of this beautiful church.

I enjoyed the area of st. germain du pres. Stay in this area if you can. Late at night there are still people gathered at cafes. It seems...active and it was rather clean. I wasnt scared walking the streets at night, plus the location is great, not that far from the good museums, the eiffel tower, invalides, or the notre dame cathedral.

There are a series of vendor booths along the Place Saint-Germain des Près in the Village d’ete St Germain just West of les Deux Magots. My fiancée and I were there two days ago and bought a sterling silver charm from one of the booths. The vendor gave us his card as well, both of which were subsequently lost during our voyage home. If anyone has the information or name of the vendor selling sterling silver bracelets, necklaces, charms, rings, etc. we would truly appreciate it!!

Desole, I saw the vendor but I didn't get their name or card.
Enjoy your charm.

We will be staying on Rue Boissonade over the weekend. Any suggestions for interesting things to do on a Sunday? We are not all that young either!

I adore the old churches. Pick a service and renew your spirit. The acoustics are beautiful in Norte Dame. Feed your senses and your soul.

Gentile signore, la sua domanda è troppo generica nel quartiere di Saint-Germain ci sono molti locali simili dove si possono gustare i frutti di mare. Mi dispiace non esserle di aiuto

Hi I love the reviews on this area of Paris and definitely want to stay here.
Can anyone recommend any hotels to stay in reasonably priced?
Also we really want to be within walking distance of nice bars and restaurants at night, where exactly would be good to find a hotel?
Thanks
