This area is what you expect Paris to be like based on what you see in films. Hundreds of little private art galleries, lots of street cafes, expensive shops and restaurants on the main roads whilst plenty of quaint (cheap) shops and restaurants. You could spend hours walking around here looking through shop windows and stopping for the occasional coffee... More

After a couple of hours of walking tour, we finally parked ourselves in this restaurant. the food was great, server was attentive. The only thing is that the toilet is packed because it's a tourist spot.

Loads of shopping, restaurants, and cafes. It's a great place to wonder the streets and live like a local. A must see!

We stay here all the time. The area is full of great restaurants, bakeries and bars. Good grocery stores to pick-up some wine and cheese to go with you to the Eiffel Tower and sit on the grass and enjoy the view.

Very nice to walk around still seeing lots of old buildings and historical monuments in the close vicinity like the Notre-Dame, Pantheon, Sorbonne and atc. Lots of shops, nice and budget eating places and witnessing everyday life.

This seems to be where the locals hang out to eat and shop. Many charming streets with cute cafes and markets. Really trendy, too----a really good place to people-watch!

We stayed in this part of Paris for a weekend. The district is packed full of restaurants, shops and wonderful things to see in its' own right. It is worth a lazy trip around, to see a particularly cool cheese shop right around the corner of our hotel, Hotel Vaineau. The Metro is obviously worth the 3 day pass we... More

We have stayed in this quartier for years, renting various apartments while visiting Paris. There are many short term apartment rentals in the area. Saint Germain de Près is in the 6th arr. Lots of places to shop, including Bon Marché department store, Le Grande Epicerie (connected to Bon Marché), lots of boutiques, La Poste (if you need to mail... More

Staying in Saint-Germain-des-Pres

Neighbourhood Profile
In Saint-Germain-des-Prés, life is effortlessly chic and all things are beautiful. The main boulevard is dotted with famed terraced cafés, haut-couture shops, ivy-covered railings and fine-dining restaurants. Antique dealers and art galleries surround the fine art school and small museums hide in unassuming squares. The neighbourhood’s namesake church is the oldest in Paris and is the backdrop for talented musicians every weekend. The Luxembourg Gardens house the national senate, splendid lawns and flourishing flower beds. Famous faces and bourgeois Parisians frequent Saint Germain accompanied by the students of Rue Saint Guillaume and Rue des Saints-Pères. This is a neighbourhood where afternoon people-watching from a café or playing cards in a brasserie are a key part of the daily fabric.
