We've been there almost by accident. It was great. A big road full of small markets, boulangeries, groceries, brasseries and whatever you like. It was very quaint!

I visited this market on a Sunday morning. There are cheeses, fish, pastries and even an outdoor large rotisserie with whole chickens and potatoes. A great place to pick up lunch or just stroll and eat with the French. An eye & mouth pleasing market....More

You need not be in search of food, but for a pleasant – very pleasant – walk then Rue Mouffetard is the street for you. Not on a Monday though as you will find the shutters down in front of the shop windows and the...More

There are cheese shops, wine shops, multiple bread and pastry shops, meats, poultry, fish, fruits, vegetables, and plenty of restaurants. The street is cobblestones for much of the way. On Sundays, a few blocks are closed to traffic. In good weather there is sometimes entertainment...More

This is the Paris that I think everyone wants to see. Lovely little food shops, everything from baked goods to cheese to seafood. Musicians playing in the street. We were there during the day, but I would love to come back in the evening on...More

Rue Mouffetard is a must for any visitor to Paris. The market itself is lovely - but just the introduction to a street and area steeped in history. As the old Roman road to Paris from the south, it is coated in the ghosts of...More

We love the Rue Mouffetard! Full of lively creperies, bistros and brasseries, you can walk the length of the street at night and feel not only safe, but happy and satisfied as you sample the wonderful Paris foods offered. Most bistros offer reasonably priced prix...More

Stroll up or down the hill and admire the food stalls and the old houses. Make sure to spend time in a cafe at Place Contrescarpe at the top of the hill, one of our favorite spots in Paris.

Quartier Latin
The Latin Quarter bursts with intellectual life,
architectural splendour and ongoing merriment. The
small streets are filled with classical buildings,
student bars and lively eateries while the squares are
dominated by historic monuments. The area is defined
by the 800-year-old Sorbonne University, where Latin
once prevailed, and is famous for the Pantheon which
celebrates the great men and women of France. During

Yes, they are. But all shops and stalls remain closed on Sunday afternoon and Monday.

Are the shops open in August? I've heard many shops in Paris close for the entire month. I'm particularly interested in going to the shops on the Rue Mouffetard. We will be in Paris the week of August 5-10.

The shops and restaurants in Rue Mouffetard did not close in August when I lived very close by in Place de la Contrescape but my information may be out of date. It is ten years plus since I was there.

Mikeal, So is rue Mouffetard windy every day? I found it sunny & delightful, no traffic, just locals, wonderful Artisan bakery, 2 great fromageries and a fabulous butcher, lots of great bars with friendly locals shopping, having a drink and great food. My question, are we talking about the same rue Mouffetard?
