About
The present monument forms only a part of the former palace of the Capetian dynasty. Charles V ceased using the palace in the 14th century and decided to house his law courts here. The Concierge, or keeper, was appointed by the king and was...more

I had the usual education - the suppression of the Paris Commune, the Revolution, the Terror, then Napoleon fixed everything - sort of.... But I have to say, it was only when I visited the Conciergerie that it all became real for me. These were...More

If Notre Dame de Paris was the spiritual heart of medieval Paris, then the Conciergerie was very much the secular heart. Today, with its wonderfully ancient and foreboding exterior and its gloomy and vacuous interior, this Ile de la Cite attraction is first rate. Not...More

This monument is worth a visit for all the history especially that of the Revolution as Marie Antoinette was imprisoned here. Take the tour of it all.

My sister and I went to visit Marie-Antoinette’s jail cell. Beautiful and sad old building. It was once a medieval palace then it served as the antechamber of death during the reign of terror. Many were imprisoned here before meeting the guillotine. There are a...More

We really enjoyed the fact that many of the interpretive material was also available in English, contrary to many other historical sites in Paris. Plenty of interesting stories and a short film about the first, second and post revolution eras makes it worthwhile to visit.

La Conciergerie provided an interesting yet somewhat disappointing visit. While a great deal of history resides here, there is not that much to see. That said, I would not skip visiting, as it is directly adjacent to Sainte-Chapelle, is not crowded, and can be explored...More

Next to ste. Chapelle, close to Notre Dame. You can see the cell that housed Marie Antoinette during the French Revolution. This is the place to go if you are interested in the French Revolution. I suggest getting the histopad, which gives more information and...More

This museum is a bit of a hidden gem - with half the number tourists of other museums in Paris. Doesn't take the whole day to visit - great for a stop of an hour or two. The remnants of an medieval castle, it gives...More

Definitely worth a visit with the Sainte Chapelle. Amazing history this place has so be sure to read the literature on the walls, especially for all you Francophiles out there. Be sure to get the little histopad too, as it enhances the visit significantly.

This building was formerly a prison and it was part of the royal palace together with the Palais de Justice and the Sainte Chapelle. We were interested in the waterfall outside the building so we visited this place. Inside it was quite empty except the...More

Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very
heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité,
sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of
Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the
site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held
before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic
Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the
Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island,

Take as little as you can. Paris is on high alert and so, my advice is, don't complicate your life by creating issues. Excess luggage is a point in focus here.

Sorry, I've only just seen your question so this is probably too late. The trip took us about an hour and a half. A lot of people also do the Sainte Chapelle, which together make for a very interesting few hours.
