My husband and I went to Paris in February 2015 and we returned last month. We were able to visit Notre Dame on both trips. The first time was during the day, this second visit was at night. It is a gorgeous place and is on the top three of our list, along with the Eiffel Tower and the Palace... More

One of the most beautiful cathedrals I have ever seen. Easy access with high security. Once inside you feel as though you are in one of the most holiest places in the world. You actually feel at one with God. A must see. When I visited, three masses a day were given. The masses given were in French.

You must see this cathedral. The history and the art and just the overall church is magical. Be respectful and dress appropriate.

What a grand cathedral to see. One of my favorites things to see in Paris, above there with Versailles and Eiffel at night

Having heard about Notre Dame of Paris so much in movies and other places I thought it would be a beautiful cathedral but i was disappointed greatly. The outside was nice but the interior wasn't special. It was like any other European cathedral.

We did a half day tour that ended at the Notre Dame Cathedral with summit access. It was fascinating to learn more about the history of the city through the cathedral. The design is truly breathtaking. Don't miss this when you're visiting Paris.

Most of French churches have Gothic style, you can realize that comparing to Italian ones. I would say it is different from Vatican and Rome churches.

Notre Dame is steeped in history and a wonderful example of Gothic architecture. As per usual go early to avoid the crowds and do your research beforehand to get more out of the experience. There are great photo ops from the other side of the Seine. Being by the river makes this special house of worship that much more photogenic.

Nothing can prepare you for this cathedral. No pictures or videos can prepare you for the spiritual beauty. Notre Dame is more than cathedral, it's a museum, an archive, a sanctuary and so much more. Regardless of your beliefs, this is a place you have to see for yourself to understand. You will be humbled.

We made the effort to visit first thing on a Sunday morning and were rewarded by a beautiful sung Mass, which greatly enhanced the experience. This is a place of indescribable beauty and though there were already enough visitors to rule out spiritual reflection, we were able to relax and appreciate the splendours of the place.

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighbourhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
