So many interesting places to visit in forest with gorges and rocks and sandy areas. Teens were eager to bounce and climb rock to rock, finding strange shapes and nooks in the boulders. Ancient trees and sandy ground add to the uniqueness

The forest is so easy to get to from the train station, literally right across the street. There are tons of different trails. If you're needing a break from the city, this place will definitely give you you're full of nature!

My boyfriend rock climbed here about 4 years ago and has never shut up about it, so we went back this November and made sure to do a climbing outing. Even though it snowed the day before and we had some light rain, there were quite a few fellow climbers out! Looks like it would be a great spot to... More

This wasn't a forest in the sense I've known others. The part we visited was filled more with large rocks than trees, but what unfolded was my first experience of rock climbing at a "beginner" level. My chance to rapell off the face of a large rock was one of the highlights of my travel life. Yay, Fontainebleau Forest!

Had a great afternoon walking in the forest and scrambling over the boulders ! We parked at parking des gorges de Franchard which was free and provided great access to a football walk to a nice view point and back. Paths were mainly sandy and some slopes and rock parts were a but if à challenge for the oldies, but... More

What an unusual spot! We did one of the sign posted walks through the forest with our 7 & 10 year olds. It was fabulous, as the walk took us through the boulders, and past little caves and ended with a superb view of the area. It felt like somewhere magical! One our second walk they both tried some bouldering,... More

I spent ages wondering whether to go here. We have plenty of forests back at home so I wasn't sure whether we would really get a whole lot out of it. Firstly, the tourist office in Fontainebleau itself is really good - we drove in to find out where we actually go in the forest. We got a helpful map,... More

Fontainebleau Forest is a very large place that feels quite remote given how easy it is to reach from Paris (45 mins from Gare de Lyon on Île de France Line R). There is a wide range of activities available here, such as hiking, mountain biking and bouldering. The boulders make the scenery interesting and varied (and the paths more... More

We did the "caverne des brigants" walk with our 2 boys 5&7. They loved it, looking for the little blue paint signs that show the way and finding the cave. Actually once done they wanted to do another one. We stayed a good 2 1/2 hours walking and climbing. We will come back for sure.
