You know by seeing it from below that it's going to be an impressive building and it is. The view you get on Besancon is spectacular. The film they show to tell you the story of the place is really well done and interesting. They show it in the small church, projecting it on the walls and ceiling. In the... More

Definitely worth a visit if you can walk up. One can drive and there is parking at the top. The road network is tricky as there are many one way streets in the old town.

La Citadelle is a fortress located on a hilltop in the city center. The walk up there about 15' but there is also a bus going or you could go by car but it really isn't as bad as it seems. The view is definitely worth it!! The fortress is a combination of buildings some of which are museums, cafes... More

This is a great attraction, from the climb up to it (you pass Victor Hugo's house and the astronomical clock) to the variety of museums and historical information. The citadel is huge and requires basic fitness to see all of it. There is a French Resistance museum and a strange little nocturnal exhibit as well as a cafe and an... More

This place is remarkable. They have taken a well preserved world heritage site and added the attraction of the zoo. And, you also have the option of getting a fair bit of cardio on your way up.

The citadel is a very impressive building, and the various museums and the zoo provide something for everyone. The only thing that we found rather annoying was the fact that the multimedia show took quite long too start (after three rounds of announcements in three languages we decided to leave).

Everything impressive here. The massive stone of the citadel, the audio-visual of the history (in the church) and last but not least the resistance museum.

Well organized with lots to see. The way up is tough but one may use a little train going up the hill. All in all a must to see especially when with children. The main attractions in this nice pastoralic city.

It is a very impressive citadel, with lots of things to do there. Besides the beautiful views to all directions (walk on and along the walls), there are 4 museums, the most interesting one is the resistance museum. There is even a zoo inside, which is very unique. If you walk up to the citadel - it is a steep... More
