So glad the I visited Chateau de Valmer. I loved gardens and this one has a 15th century designed gardens. Huge grounds, including the Kitchen garden, Terrace of Leda, and so much more. Lovely nature bedding plants. Good shop for gifts and wine tasting. The wine is excellent and is in the wine region of Vouvray. Lovely staff, a young... More

I had been hearing about Valmer for sometime, but since it was just slightly off my beaten track, I hadn't bothered to make a special detour to visit it before. I'm so glad that I did. The setting is especially pleasant. Ruling over the surrounding countryside with a deep forest behind, it is both majestic and cosy at the same... More

A return visit to Valmar after 12 years left us slightly disappointed. The gardens are still impressive in their scale with the large terraces and huge potager but the standard of maintainance was poor with weedy paths and beds. The planting in the main potager was nothing special. It was a pleasant way to spend an hour or two but... More

This is a chateau of a humble kind with a charm that the other much larger ones don't have. What struck me most was the peace and quiet of the area. The owner was charming and friendly and in all it is well worth a visit and a welcome break from the tourist trail.

The chateau itself no longer exists and its outline is marked by tall hedges. The garden attempts to take advantage of the different levels of the slope on which it is situated and that is a great garden layout idea. However, the planting could be much more varied and interesting and the general level of garden maintenance was poor for... More

The gardens are worth visiting, the guide is available in different languages and gives a good overview of the history of the chateau and gardens. This has been a very hot dry summer so the gardens were not at their best. However the free wine tasting at the end of the visit is well worth it and there is wine... More

Lovely, lovely peaceful garden without all the tourists. Although mentioned in the green Michelin in a side note, this lovely garden doesn't get the publicity that the river Chateau in the Loire Valley get but it's well worth the visit ! The potager gave us some wonderful ideas.
