We drove some distance after consulting their web site. Still no notice or explanation to say why not open as the web site led us to believe. Visited Chateau de l'Islette instead and had most enjoyable afternoon.

We've been coming to La Chatonnière for ages. A gorgeous place, with a variety of small and very individual designed spaces as well as vegetable gardens. It is really quite lovely and a joy to walk around. Back in August having checked on the website about opening times, we arrived with friends who were staying, to find the gardens closed.... More

We had a delightful tour led by the Duke, who is the owner's, Madame Andias nephew. She is very frail and I think this is why the gardens are only open to groups that book in advance. Our tour was wonderful and the Duke gave us a very keen sense on his aunt's thoughts in laying out this garden. There... More

The website said nothing about this, but apparently it is the current policy. And when I took a photo of poppies growing on the hillside above the gardens, the man driving his tractor in the neighboring vineyard got very angry, screaming at me (although I was walking on the public path just beyond the parking lot). Not at all a... More

Without any advanced warning and signs all the way welcoming us and saying open every day this place was shut . We had driven a long way and the last part down narrow country lanes to find a roped off car park and a closed gate ! No sign , nothing at all just car loads of disgruntled tourists OWNERS... More

A gem that crosses formal and informal garden design. Even though we live here and go regularly, there is always something different to see at La Chatonniere. It isn't huge, but is just magical. One of our favourite places, to which we're always keen to take visitors. Decorative planting, medicinal herbs, vegetables, themed areas, wild flowers. An amazing amount in... More

The quote comes from the person manning the billeterie as we commented on how quiet it was - a lovely sunny Sunday in early September, and he was not wrong. We'd just revisited the still-stunning Villandry that morning, paying €6.50; here it is an unjustified €8. No it's not Villandry; it's amateurish, tatty, pretentious and full of weeds. No sign... Absolutely stunning, we got there early at opening time and we were the only ones there! It was a self guided garden tour and what a treat it was. Tranquility at its best. Dont be put off by the entrance...its not your average chateau entrance so be patient..you have to wait until they come out to the gate..just ring the... More

We went in late June after a very delayed spring. The perfume was wonderful. There are weeds and bits that need attention but somehow that made it feel intimidating than some "posher"`places. Would definite;y re vist if we were back in the area.8 Euros is a lot for what there is but you can sit and comtemplate for ages with... More
