Jam-packed with information and a surprise
Jun 2019 • Couples
This museum is in 3 parts: History of Bretagne, History of Rennes, and the Alfred Dreyfus affair. Apparently, Dreyfus was from Rennes, though the terrible things that happened to him transpired in Paris. I applaud the museum for featuring this period of French history, something I did not expect. The museum is laid out in a walking pattern so you can see everything in a hurry or as a stroll.

Excellent introduction to Breton culture
Sep 2018 • Solo
Well organized, just the right amount of artifacts covering all historical epochs & aspects of Breton culture, all for 6 Euros. Good English descriptions as well. Though be aware that most days it opens only at noon.

Interesting for History Buffs
Jul 2018 • Friends
Anyone truly interested the history of the Northern part of France should really check this out. It's super cheap and VERY well organized and taken care of. There are so many little artifacts ranging from ancient coins to documents and large artifacts such as sculptures and furniture. I wouldn't recommend this for children or maybe even teenagers - I don't think it's interactive/entertaining enough to captivate their attention, but for history loving adults it's worth an afternoon. Check out the great galette restaurant right across the street before or after for a good meal too!

Big and interesting

I have visited this museum with my friend. I high recommend it for those who go to rennnes for the first time. It is big and have so many thing to see. I like its design very much, it is one of the highlight of this place. And another thing, you have to pay even if you are student.

C'est le design que j'aime le plus ici. Vous devz payer même si vous êtes étudiant, mais l'essayez, Je le vous propose.

Great insight into Brittany
Feb 2018 • Family
Not expensive and a good morning visit. Many exhibits are multi lingual. Cover a spread of years from prehistoric to the present day. Worth the time signage a little confused.

An excellent walk through Brittany's past
Jan 2018 • Friends
I visited with friends whilst on a trip to Rennes. They gave us the group discount, but it would have been worth paying the full entry. An excellent exhibition on the history of Brittany - the prehistoric artefacts are amazing. The more modern items didn't interest me as much, but everything was well organised and presented. There isn't full signage in English, but I could work out what everything was. In addition to this there were a number of side exhibitions - which I think were temporary. I was in there for about 2 hours, but could easily have stayed longer.

Interesting, but...
Jun 2017 • Couples
The slightly frustrating thing about the Musée de Bretagne is that it has the potential to be a great visitor attraction, but is let down by at least half of the interactive exhibits having broken down or not been maintained properly. The museum's in a really interesting space, and is worth the visit for that alone, although the layout is confusing, and towards the end it's clear some of the exhibits have been lifted from a previous incarnation of the attraction before it was moved into its current building in 2006.

You'll also need to speak French to get the most out of it - while some of the information panels were translated into English, they were few and far between.

We enjoyed learning about the cultural history of the region in an easy to understand format. We enjoyed the train exhibit also.

Very engaging introduction to Brittany
Apr 2017 • Solo
Set within Les Champs Libre, this museum gives you a general introduction to Brittany from prehistoric times to the present. The exhibits are a combination of multimedia and actual artifacts. Most of the captions include English translations. I try and visit museums that give me regional or city histories everywhere I go. This museum is up there in that category.
