Sightseeing in France,

The Parliament of Brittany is at the same time the main building of the heritage of the city, and also one of the strong symbols of the Breton History, and besides the seat of the court of appeal of the area and the site Rennes which attracts a large number of tourists every year. In the year 1532, the duchy of Brittany is attached to the kingdom of France. It also follows the decision, in the year 1554, to create a Parliament of Brittany. The construction of the Palace began in the year 1615 and ended in the year 1655 according to the plans of the architect Salomon de Brosse, to whom we owe the Palais du Luxembourg in Paris.

Only for those who speak fluent French or have an intense interest in French legal system

I would not recommend this to the mainstream American tourist. The building was destroyed by fire during labor unrest 25 years ago, and the reproductions have little true historical interest. You get to see the insides of modern French courtrooms, but for most tourists a walk around the outside of the building and admiring it from the park in front will be sufficient.

Impressive building

Very impressive building and square, well worth a walk around. 2 good Bureau de Change nearby doing a far better rate than a Condor Ferries.

One of the problems with France is it is often ferme!...you have to get tickets at the tourist office so off we trotted....closed until 1pm so we walked to the parliament building in the hope of getting in..."next tour (in french) at 3pm"...we surrendered...just like the french!

An old place linked to the history of Brittany
Mar 2019 • Couples
After a fire due (already) ro riots in 1994, this building has been perfectly restored and houses again the Cour d'Appel (a tribunal). So it is better to share a guided visit.

Guided tours are well worth it!
Jan 2019 • Couples
We went into the building on a guided tour, and fortunately on a day when the court was not sitting, so we were able to access all of the principal rooms on the first floor.

The tour was wonderfully interesting, and informative and well worth booking. You'll need to secure your place at the tourist information information office, from where the tour starts.

The tours are only available in French, and obviously being a court building, you'll need a fairly decent level of French to follow the details of the procedures of the court and details of the building.

Not that good

It is not possible to buy your ticket on the place, you have to go in a tourist office, 800 metres from the parliament.

Great!

It's actually a Court House, not a Parlament. Anyway, really good in case you're interested in architecture, law and history.

Parliament

We were in Rennes for 1 night after visiting Mont St Michel. On a Saturday morning on October 6, we had the opportunity to walk around Rennes center and stopped by the Parliament building.

We were able to view this building on a quiet Saturday morning.

Its not a parliament building but a court building. We were in Rennes on a Saturday and saw at least five weddings at the hotel de ville on the square.
