Vibrant City
Oct 2020
Beautiful architecture varied with old and modern kept impeccably clean by the council . Vibrant with a lot of well behaved youth from the Colleges.

Short but nice
Jan 2020 • Family
Just a short stretch of buildings. Nice to see how the old structures were. We didn’t get to step inside any of the shops though.

Seeing France as an independent traveller
Oct 2019
Stayed here 4 nights on an independent tour of the area. We wanted to see how the real people of France lived and I think we got a good glimpse of it staying in a little 1 bedroom apartment in the old town just 150 metres from the railway station. Bought our groceries from the local supermarket and roamed for hours. Great architecture from middle ages up late 1800's and also quite different as you get closer to the coast and see the influence of the British style architecture. Hundreds of little cafes and restaurants and buildings of interest, from the Opera house to cathedrals and council buildings. Good to just wander, sit and take in the atmosphere. Take a train to St Marlo or hire a car for the day and see more of the coast. Visit the Abbey of Mont St Michelle on day trip. A great experience for the independent traveler and so much to keep you occupied.

Well preserved buildings with interesting architecture
Oct 2019
First thing: stop at the Tourist office and get a map! I wish we had. We wandered into and through the small cobbled streets, enjoyed the wood timbered buildings and the atmosphere. Many buildings have cafes, bars and small shops so window shopping is a pleasure as is trying to decide where you'd like to eat! The historical center is a very walkable area, although it is not vehicle free and sometimes you have to give way to the traffic. The cobble stones add to the atmosphere but are not level so a baby stroller with narrow wheels is a chore. Get map so you get some history and can find your way back to a particular spot if you want to. Lovely way to spend a day.

Architectural styles of Brittany
Sep 2019
Rennes is quite walkable and accessible. Its appealing scale and gorgeous regional architecture kept us interested as we wandered, photographed, and watched the locals.

Heart of Brittany
Oct 2019 • Business
One of the most beautiful, quaint places I have seen. Small enough to walk around, friendly, many great places to eat (breton gallettes is a must) and beautiful parks (Parc du Thabor stands out).

Sightseeing in France,
Aug 2019
Rennes is seen as the capital of the region of Brittany. The Rennes's history goes back more than 2,000 years, at a time when it was a small Gallic village named Condate. Together with Vannes and Nantes, it was one of the major cities of the ancient Duchy of Brittany. From the early sixteenth century until the French Revolution, Rennes was a parliamentary, administrative and garrison city. But since the 1950s, Rennes has grown in importance. All together a nice city for sight seeing.
