Perhaps the more beautiful of the Basque churches. Interior in wood, with several balconies, magnificent high altar, boats suspended from the ceiling. Different from the tradional Catholic churches.

The church of St John the Baptist is a normal looking church from the outside. But as we walking inside we were very surprised to see that it had 3 rows of galleries and an amazing golden altarpiece. We learnt afterwards that these galleries were to separate the male worshippers from the female worshipers. The men went upstairs and the... More

This was the church that Louis XIV was married in although at the time only the bell tower and a small part was built. the church is unusual in that there were balconies built where the men could be for mass and the women stayed in the bottom.

We arrived just in time to view the interior alive with light. Gorgeous altar. Very intricate and should not be missed.

A lovely place to visit. The Church is beautiful with a lovely galleried section. When someone tops up the electric meter and the lights go on it is wonderful.

Very nice church. While we were visiting the organist had rehearsals and I must say, this instrument is impressive! If you want some spiritual time, I highly recommend to spend some time inside.

Better on the inside this church has multiple galleries, a superb Oregon and a baroque altar. Lucky for us the organist was limbering up on a Bach Prelude and Fugue when we visited

Beautiful, peaceful church with very unusual dark wood interior and paintings. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

Atmospheric church, shame about the (French) tourist guides who insist on talking to their customers INSIDE the church. This is an essential visit if you are in St Jean.
