An excellent couple of hours out. All children between 10 and 2 enjoyed it, particularly being able to try police uniforms and helmets on. Another particular highlight being the policeman near the cells telling the children all about truncheons and hand cuffs. They were hypnotised! Lovely staff who are clearly passionate about what they do and interesting exhibits and displays.... More

Visited this Museum today,as it is only open on a Tuesday. We found it amazing, full of history and great displays. There was a lot of children visiting(half term). The attendents, dressed as policemen, were brilliant and entertained all the children. The actual old police cells were interesting ,as were the reports of actual legal cases and their outcome.(The penal system is obviously too... More

The museum is only opened on Tuesdays (January 2017) as it's staffed by volunteers, so plan your trip mindfully. It's a great museum. The volunteers are very enthusiastic and are more than happy to chat you up with their personal stories about working on the force. We had a great chat with a volunteer in the booking station on how... More

Top place, full of police history. Opens on a Tuesday. Very good to see how a police station used to operate, complete with original prison cells and police bikes and cars. Enjoyed it.

The museum is really like taking a walk into history! Excellent little gem! You can see the old cells, historical police items, there's even an old replica police telephone box AND a mini replica court room! Can't beat free wifi either! 5/5! Definitely worth a visit!

The museum is easy to find and open one day a week. Separated in to a crime section, uniform section (including uniform to try on and take photos), a small courtroom and the cells this is a charming museum with lots of interesting exhibits to spend an hour or two exploring. If you simply judged the museum on the basis... More

A cracking museum which we stumbled across by accident. Really engaging and nice to have it staffed by retired police. My only criticism is that it feels very 'pro'-police which is not surprising but when events such as the miner's strike and the strangeways riot are documented there is no attempt at viewing history from 'the other side'. That said... More
