Nature paths suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs will wind you around a stunning, safe wetland habitat littered with pockets of woodland and wildflower meadows, and a cracking cafe is a great place for you recharge with friends. Hides allow you and your family to get up close and personal with birds such as woodpeckers and kingfishers and during your wander you may also encounter mammals such as roe deer and hedgehogs. The meadows during summer are full of butterflies on the wing in comparison to a snow laden winter where you may be lucky enough to spot our overwintering bitterns - this globally threatened species a real highlight to see for any wildlife watcher. Please note that we close over the Christmas period, check our website for details. We will be open every other day of the year (weather permitting) please see are website for further details.

Unfortunately dogs, horses, bike, scooters etc are unfortunately not permitted on site.

Some fantastic views and lovely walks that are right on your doorstep. The walks are great and there are lots of different routes to go on with varying lengths. A new thing they've just introduced is some lovely carving on a new stretch of the route.

Great place for birds or just a walk which could take a few hours, all paths are nice and flat but some of the woodland walks can be a bit muddy in winter or rainy days, plenty of hides and if your lucky you could see deer or foxes also a very nice cafe ...no dogs allowed unfortunately for you... This reserve is owned by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and has always been a magnet for naturalists but with the opening of a new visitor's centre and Cafe it has become a great place to spend the day for the whole family. There are good level paths with easy access to hides. The cafe serves wonderful wholesome and local food... More

We visited on a particularly cold day in January. After exploring the many footpaths and seeing a variety of wildlife on and around the marshes and lakes we were ready for a hot meal and drinks. We were not to be disappointed! The new visitor centre has a well-equipped café serving delicious hot and cold food including vegetarian and vegan... More

The reserve is much more than I expected, even though I've read quite a bit about it in the YNT magazines. The hides are very nicely positioned and the trails are quite well maintained. The map took a bit getting used to, but was fine once I got into it. One big negative, however that should be easy to fix:... More

Visited Potteric Carr for the first time a couple of weeks ago and overall, was very impressed. What is amazing, is its at very close proximity to Doncaster. On one side of the reserve is a busy road. Behind that, the Lakeside shopping complex. Running parallel on the opposite side is the East Caost main railway line. The visitor centre... More

We called in the new cafe a couple of weeks ago, and are so pleased that we did. What a beautiful addition to this wonderful nature reserve. From the terrific terrace overlooking the lake to the lovely recycled wooden benches and tables inside, it was just fantastic. A great menu catering for all tastes and appetites (yes, even veggies!) and... More

The walks are impressive given the proximity to Doncaster town centre with excellent hides and varied habitats. The new woodland area recently opened up is excellent and there is the promise of some open farmland to attract different birds. The circular walk around the reserve is a bracing walk and well recommended. The new visitor centre is potentially fabulous with... More

Despite being only a few miles away, we have never visited Potteric Carr but finally we had a sunny day and nothing planned. It is £4 per adult to get in and worth it. The staff are friendly and provided a map and explained what was where and where all the different trails were. Within thirty seconds of stepping out... More
