Walsall Leather Museum is a welcoming and friendly attraction housed in a restored Victorian factory building. We offer a fascinating insight into the story of Walsall's famous leatherworking trade. There are regular guided tours and demonstrations of leather crafts, and a lively programme of events and actvities throughout the year, including changing exhibitions. Beautiful gardens planted with traditional tanning trees and shrubs. Excellent cafe serving home made food, and a great shop specialising in Walsall- made leathergoods.

A small museum. Well laid out, well displayed and an excellent record of the leather industry in the area including a wealth of examples and workshops showing tools and processes. The museum shop sells good examples of quality leatherware at reasonable prices.

I first visited Walsall Leather Museum in 1988 and have visited on numerous occasions ever since. A rich source of the towns leather trade history and associated trades. The staff are enthusiastic and knowledgeable, always keen to assist and help with any questions. On many occasions I have taken advantage of their reference library for research which contains many catalogues,... More

Thank you for your very generous review. It`s great to have some publicity for our Livery Companies` Library collection, which remains something of a well kept secret. Although some famous names have beaten a path to it over the years (designers from Mulberry, Hermes, Anya Hindmarch, Penhaligons, Swaine and Adeney, and most recently Margaret Howell, to name just a few)... Made a visit today and what a treat. Excellent museum with knowledgeable staff and all for free!Learnt a lot about the leather trade in a superb visual and auditory display. It would be such a shame if Walsall was to lose this educational attraction. Will visit again to see the garden and enjoy the cafe.

I`m so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your visit and many thanks for such a supportive review. I can report that the Leader of the Council has announced that the Leather Museum will not be moving, so (subject to final approval by full Council on 23rd February) we hope to be here in our beautiful Victorian factory in Wisemore... I was very happy to make a return visit with another guest - and delighted to find a different `extra'. It was an explanation of skins/leathers, sewing machines and descriptions of other machines for splitting, skiving and edging (cannot recall correct name). Lovely little shop.

It`s always a lovely boost to receive such a positive review. Many thanks for taking the time to write - I hope we will see you back here again before to long. We have just opened our latest exhibition on the history of Old Hall, a Walsall company which started out making bits and stirrups for horses and ended up... More

Today we visited the leather museum with our class from college. It is surprising to me that so many people had never been to such a unique attraction that offers such interesting information about the history of our own town. When in Walsall, this attraction is what I would consider the top one to see! Very interesting and educational. Would... More

Thank you so much! We really appreciate people taking time to recommend us and it means more than any publicity we can put out as obviously we're biased! We're always happy to organise visits for Travel and Tourism students as the museum can make an interesting case study. Staff are always happy to talk about how a visitor attraction works... More

Passion, is what struck us this cold Saturday morning...Welcomed as soon as we walked through the door from staff that actually looked like they wanted to be there. A very nice lady then welcomed us and briefed us on the lay out of the museum and asked if we wanted a free tour, we declined (wish we hadn't ) then... More

What a great review and thank you for your kind comments. We think our staff and volunteers are amazing but it is lovely to hear that from visitors. I'm so pleased that you got to meet Keith as he really does bring the trade to life. And he is a perfect example of the continuation of the skills of the... More

We went on a rainy Saturday in January looking for some local history to share with a visiting relative who had a physical and speech disability. We were given a friendly and informative welcome at the reception desk. Looking around the museum was free! Downstairs there were lots of exhibits to look at and our relative was able to use...
