Visited the archives here hunting material for a project I'm working on and was meant by a wonderful member of staff who seemed to have everything at his finger tips. Some interesting publications on local history for sale. Huge respect for the monumental archive that is being put together of the men from Bolton who served in the First World... More

The exhibits are constantly changing so there is always something not to see. There are too many things to list here but I do recommend having a peep at the aquarium in the basement. It's a work in progress but it's good. Then while you are in the building you could borrow a book.

I've never been disappointed whenever I visit this wonderful institution! The Library staff in particular are brilliant- no problem is too large or small. They will help you find all the information you need or track down any book etc .

Growing up in Bolton the museum used to be a place of great attraction. However on my last visit with my partner and children I was horrified to see how far the museum has fallen. The aquarium was so disappointing and not exactly full of fish. The Egyptian section has shrunk in size and stature. Another section of the museum... More

This was a very interesting day out. A beautiful building, we visited the aquarium which was small but interesting. The kids really liked it. We also like the older displays upstairs, especially the Egyptian section. I particularly liked the art gallery and the photos of modern Bolton life.
