There are a couple of magnificent steam trains in this museum, beautiful, polished, very nostalgic and splendid - but after seeing them there really isn't much else to do. Fine for a first visit but unlikely you will return there quickly.

Wide ranging, well set out and above all interesting! Excellent for adults and children alike. Good parking and a very good shop for souvenirs. I particularly enjoyed the engines and the history of Swindon for building engines. I recommend this museum to all. The "Dad's. will enjoy it just as much if not more than the children.

We have visited the Steam Museum a lot, it never fails to please. There are many railway exhibits, mainly focused, but not exclusively, on the GWR railway. Swindon was the headquarters of the Great Western Railway & most of its engineering & the production of its engines, rolling stock etc, was here, if fact the railway was run from here.... More

We have recently moved into area, so though we would look into some history. This museum is informative, educational and interactive. Really enjoyed our time in the museum.

Took a four and eight year old to the museum. They had a fantastic time with wonderful age bespoke quizzes which took them round the museum. Staff were helpful, lots of other games related to railways for them to do plus we could enter cabs and "drive" trains and operate signals. Could not recommend more highly.

Excellent place for a work Christmas lunch. Very good food and drink, then an opportunity to walk around the museum afterwards. Very pleased to have visited here and they offer free car parking (via a pre-paid ticket to exit the barrier) to corporate visitors. It's a great museum as well, which is particularly valuable if you're using it as a... More

My wife and I visited on Friday 2nd December. There were few visitors which enabled us to get close to the exhibits and engines. We were pleased we decided to visit on the Friday as the museum was being prepared for the 2016 Christmas Market on the following day, when I would assume many of the exhibits would have been...
