We love taking our dog to Calke Abbey all year round. The scenery is lovely and there are lots of different routes to enjoy. We often sit outside and have a cup of tea or snack at the cafe or restaurant as we can't go inside with the dog-but that is never a problem and we don't mind.

I had never been here before but what a treat if you go by yourself or with the whole family. You can step back in time as very little has been changed. Another great thing is as I said the whole family including the dog. In several areas the dog can run free as long as there is no livestock.... More

The village of Ticknall is a lovely location and the drive from the road up to the House is wonderful and great place for a picnic. Adequate parking close to the house, entrance procedures are simple and the house is a short walk from the Booking Office. There is a great restaurant with a sensible menu set in an old... More

As locals we often pop here for a lunch in the glorious surroundings. Did so today, the meals are usually of a high standard. I ordered a vegetarian main and paid for it, found a table to be told they had sold out and offered me a refund. I looked at the sandwich counter to find it was out of... More

In large parkland so children can play/picnic, rooms have been left as found in some places so interesting to see. It is dark and in these places less inviting but is all part of the history of the house, the trust is renovating slowly. The restaurant/cafe is lovely and you can buy plants and sit outside (weather permitting) in the... More

What an absolute treat this place is! I have never seen so many varied collections in one property ever! The volunteers at Calke are really exceptional. Everywhere we went we came upon knowledgeable, enthusiastic volunteers who were wonderful ambassadors for the property. The National Trust's policy to preserve the house as they took possession of it is a brilliant one.... More

If you are in the area this is a good place to visit, beautiful grounds, brilliant history, each room from each generation has been kept, from nurseries up wards and has been left untouched and the family history is wonderful.

Enjoyed Calke Abbey was a very interesting and quirky place to visit with lots to see. Was grateful for the buggy which transported myself and friends to the abbey as it was a decent walk. The staff were friendly and accomodating especially towards my friend who had limited mobility. There was a vitrual tour available for those unable to negotiate... More

Calke Abbey although fairly expensive if you're not a member of the National Trust is a beautiful place to visit. If you're not keen on going around old houses (even though this one is completely different and isn't "manicured" at all) then the grounds are interesting and beautiful too. There is a long drive to the Calke Abbey itself and... More

We arrived unsure of what to expect as we have a young family and weren't sure if it would be 'their thing' we were however pleasently suprised. There is so much to see and the surroundings are stunning. We finished off our afternoon with a picnic in the grounds. Wonderful place well worth a visit.
