Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We went here during the tail end of Hurricane Debby, so lots of rain, but the water was bathtub warm. We walked out for about 400 yards before it was swimmable, chest deep so it is extremely safe for even the tiniest family member. This was one of our favourite beaches of the entire island. Because of the rain, only three others were present. There are change rooms, flush toilets, and free parking back at the parking lot. Then, a walking mat out to the sand and life guard station which is manned until about 5:00 pm. Water is clean with no sea weed, etc.

This was worth the visit. Weather was not good but we chose to take a good walk on the beach and loved it. Singing sand, never heard of it, but it's real. As you walk the beach the slide of your feet on the sand brings our a delightful sand. The drifting dunes, dune grass and cliffs only add to the experience. Take an hour and visit.

We went in early September, the weather was beautiful, water was cool but you could swim, although most just walked this incredible red sand beach. Very few people were around, which gave us some great shots of just us at these fantastic formations. Gotta LOVE nature doing it’s thing!

this was a beautiful red sand natural beach and red cliffs beach with thundering water. We could see it from our accommodation and loved it. The road down to the beach is not well marked and others such as ourselves had trouble finding the road. Very little parking there. This is a worth it stop be prepared for high cold winds as well

A bit off the regularly traveled roads, make this bitch, a bit more private, at least the day we were there. Big enough that it can handle a large crowd. Parking is going to be a challenge and after a rain, it will be muddy. Nice view from up above and down on the beach.

What a hidden gem.. this beach is stunning. Red sand and beautiful red cliffs. I'm a little hard to climb down to, but it is worth it if you get to the beach! Low tide, you walk forever. Unfortunately, the beautiful "teacup" is gone! Hurricane Fiona took it....sadly. water was chilly, but you are on the north side of the island, but it's still very nice.

A little misleading for tourists. We drove down from Cavendish, only to find Thunder Beach is private homes and cottages and there is no place for a visitor to park and see the beach. In fact, there are warning signs saying not to park and the road was private.
We felt very annoyed that we had driven there for nothing.
I am sure the beach was wonderful.

Nice beach. Flower pots do require a bit of wading to get to or going up on the top of the cliffs. Parking is on the side of the road and I would think could get very busy. We were there on a Tuesday morning and it got busy by noon.

Great beach! Very scenic. Red sands and rocks . Lots of space , not very busy. Small hill to climb down to get on beach. We climbed on the rocks and walked the beach. We never swam as the wind was blowing . We seen kite surfers and lots of people flying kites.

Teacup is gone now, but the beach is great. Awesome sandbar little over shin deep. Water was nice for a hot July day. Great beach, lots of room and little caves to explore.

Does anyone have an address I can put into my GPS? Or an idea of where I can park? I'll be visiting the end of May.

Put in Thunder Cove Beach into your GPS and that should work. If not, Thunder Cove Road intersects with Lower Darnley Road. As you round the curve and get to the end of Thunder Cove Road, it will widen slightly to allow parking. Don't go much further than this for parking as you will be starting to enter in private property. Depending on when you go, there may be a large number of cars parked.
Look up Malpeque Tide Tables to determine when low tide is. You may not be able to reach The Tea Cup at high tide.

Thinking about coming here, roughly how far of a walk is it? Thanks!

Hi Julie V: I just spent all of last week in Darnley, PEI and at Thunder Cove beach.
If you drive down Thunder Cove Road (red dirt side road) you can park on either side of the road and then it's only a half-minute's walk down to the beach.
Note that the sandy pathway has eroded and there's no actual "stairway" down, so while it was a fine trek for us, it was not for my parents.

I didn’t see any signs that suggested dogs were not allowed.

Hello fellow travellers:
I am planning to go to Thunder Cove Beach tomorrow. I was wondering if anyone can tell me if it is easy walk or difficult hike to reach the area where the beautiful rock formations are ?
Written 30 August 2017
I have never been there. I have copied and pasted another person's review: This is a spectacular beach There are a few drawbacks parking I limited to non existent To get down to the wide expanse of lovely sandy beach you have ttobe able to climb down a sandy expanse of footprint steps which are steep and sloppy BUT when you get down on the beach it is wide and the water is crystal clear. The walk along the sand to the teacup rock shows yo what the ocean can do to the sandstone hills making beautiful caves and structures. This is truly a hidden gem .
The climb back up to the road is also treacherous.
