About
Filled with masterpieces from the renaissance to the twentieth century and only 30 mins from Dublin, Russborough is known as Ireland’s most beautiful Georgian house and park. A guided tour of the house is an excellent way to explore its fine art, architecture and interiors. Visitors will uncover Russborough's fascinating history from the 1740s onwards, the intriguing stories about the lives and history of its many occupants, and how the house and collections remain as a rare survivor of exquisite taste and grandeur. Enjoy refreshments in our award winning cafe and take in a little shopping in our basement shop voted top in last year's Shopkeepers of Ireland awards. Russborough boasts a fabulous setting to match, set in 200 acres of rolling parkland enjoying a wonderful vista across Blessington Lakes to the Wicklow Mountains beyond.

We visited the playground here and paid for the parking but won't be doing so again. Attempted to visit the cafe but it didn't go well.
First of all I was barked at by a woman in a not altogether polite tone to go and stand beside the sign that said wait to be served, a little over the top as i well over 6 foot away from a living soul and they wouldn't have been "contaminated" and i hadn't seen the sign anyway after entering through a door the other side of it. She comes back a minute later and asks where my mask is, i said this is a cafe, i was aware that cafes and restaurants are not mandatory for masks in ireland as you eat in them. She insisted i needed one and so we left never to darken their door again with our unwanted presence.
My little girl was upset at first but luckily i had some spare food in my bag for her or it could have been a lot worse with nowhere close to eat or drink. I don't think coronavirus is a good excuse to treat people in a harsh unfriendly manner and refuse them hospitality over something so minor. Plenty of other cafe's that offer a more convivial atmosphere and no masks.

Visited the house and did the conducted tour with afternoon tea . The lady who did the tour was excellent .She was amusing but also very informative and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We then had afternoon tea in the restaurant which was delicious and served by a lovely pleasant waitress. We visited the shop which had a really lovely selection of gifts and was well worth the visit . As the day we visited was beautiful we sat outside and enjoyed the view after our afternoon tea .

We paid for an outdoor ticket. A family ticket was reduced from €12 to €10. We understand the current restrictions due to Covid, therefore the kids train is not running. However, the maze and walled garden are both closed. It doesn't mention this on their website, or at reception when buying tickets. Otherwise, it is a pretty place, just not for an outdoor only ticket.

Had lunch in the restaurant yesterday. It gets an average score from me as firstly I had to send my cup back because it was cracked and dirty and secondly, my quiche was warm on the outside and cold on the inside. My husband’s food was very tasty. A little bit pricey for lunch. And lastly, the manager wasn’t managing as far as I could see! The poor staff were very young and inexperienced.

We spent the day here touring the house and walking the grounds and it is so beautiful. We didn't even get to see everything there. The house itself is so nice and the history is very interesting. Well worth the tour and there are people throughout to answer questions the staff are very nice and helpful and you can tell they are knowledgeable and like to share information. Everyone was wearing masks and there is sanitisizer throughout the house.
The grounds are so beautiful, we had a really nice day to walk around and theres so much to see. From fairy trails to cows and swans.
Very enjoyable.

Tour of house; we enjoyed a most informative and interesting tour led by Ann. Ann has been involved in Russborough for more than 40 years and is totally devoted to the beauty and architectural history of this house. She answered all questions and had a sense of humour into the mix too. We were lucky to be part of a small group and enjoyed the art works, fabulous furnishings and decor throughout. It really is worth a visit and walled gardens with beech lined paddocks … not to be missed. Thank you Ann!

Russborough is a treat for the senses. The house itself is an architectural gem with an amazing art collection mainly gathered and restored by the Beit family who were the last people to live there. We are so lucky that they bequeathed it to the state and it is now ruin by a trust.
I had a wonderful guided tour with a very knowledgeable guide.
There is also an interesting shop with an eclectic mix of items.
A cafe is well run and also has an outdoor Area.
There is lots to do outside too. A beech maze to get lost in, a walled garden to explore and many walking areas.

We seemed to be one of the few who pay in. We payed €15 online for a family ticket which isn't alot. We are only a family of 3 but nobody else seem to pay in so when u get to the maze with your tokens to get in you have tons of children who's parents haven't pay pushing into the turning gate on top of you. We also had to pay for parking on top of that which I thought would of been included. We brought out son to the adventure park but we where told there was no space for him by a quite unhelpful man even though if was empty. So we had a upset little man. We looked on line and couldn't work out how to book in to do it. Have to say the takeaway coffee out of the coffee box is horrible. We did enjoy the train and walks but the need to sort out if there is a entrance fee or not and enforce it.

Paid €4 for parking and only then was told house and exhibition are not open until February. Found this penny pinching quite annoying. Nothing to suggest of this closure until you walk into the reception. If you want to go for a walk park in the carpark opposite the entrance to Russborough House, it's free.

Does anyone have a strong preference between castletown house and russborough?
Written 21 August 2017
Russborough is better preserved, has a lot more of its contents kept in the house and on view. Go to both, take the tours but if you can only get to 1, I would go to Russborough.

Can we bring a well behaved dog into the grounds at Russborough when visiting? But
Written 6 July 2016
When we visited the beautiful grounds in April we did see people walking their dogs on a lead.

Hi, how long does it take to see the house and do the maze?
Written 16 May 2015
The guided tour lasts almost an hour. They leave on the hour ie. at 1.00pm then 2.00pm then 3.00pm etc.
The Maze needs half an hour -particularly if you have children !!
