After setting up camp down by the river, we visited this pub at the recommendation of the campsite. Wonderful atmosphere with very friendly locals who welcomed us in (even roping us into their weekly draw). The cartoons on the wall add to the charm

Visted here recently while on holidays with my wife and kids. We had a wonderful meal in the adjacent Bates restaurant and decided to have one drink before retiring for the evening. We arrived into this pub with our kids (age 12, 10 and 7) at approximately 8.05 and proceeded to order. The bar tender took the order and returned with said drinks about 10 mins later and then hit us with the little nugget that because we had kids we had to be off the premises by 8.30!!! I said my understanding was that 9pm was the cut off but she said that it was at the discretion of the publican and we had to be out by 8.30. In principle I've no issue, however she could have told us this before she took our order AND our money and that we had to set a Guinness world record whilst having our drinks!!! This didn't leave a good taste and I would suggest visiting one of the other hosteleries (Jacobs well being one) in the village if customer care is high on your agenda.

This pub hasn't changed much from Ireland's fair old times. Here you will find locals having a pint and discussing the prospects of their favorite horse at tracks from all over Ireland. We happened to be there on Irish Derby Day. It was as if a part of old Ireland had frozen in time just for us. This is a great village pub for craic and a pint. The name comes from the old cartoons that fill the wall. Someone in recent times has done a mural on the walls featuring twentieth century cartoon characters. I loved this pub.

I don't live in Ireland, but come to visit family when I can. There's no option for "Family", so had to go with "Family with teenagers" as my mum was the one who took me here. We've been a few times, and I've always really liked it here. The interior was quirky, old-fashioned {which I loved}, and I was intrigued that it's also a film location. Staff were very friendly, and we enjoyed having a pleasant drink in here. I hope to return next time we're in the area. 5*
