The panel were outstandingly beautiful and showed the extraordinary craftsmanship of local talented "stitchers". The panels lay out a wonderful history of the foundation and development of New Ross. A must-see whenever in New Ross. Well worth a slow intake of this magnificent tribute to all involved.

I found this attraction on Tripadvisor and would highly recommend it. It was 10 euro to get in and you need at least 45 mins. If you can visit on a Monday or Tuesday you will see the stitchers at work - I was there on Wednesday but was able to go up the stairs and see the thread /looms/work in progress.
The audio guide is great, giving just enough information about each of the 16 tapestries. I'm not particularly into stitching but I still found it fascinating - the quality of the needlework as well as the unfolding history which the tapestries convey.
Toilets are clean and upstairs. We visited The Cracked Teapot around the corner for coffee afterwards and it too comes highly recommended.
Park across the road in the Pay and Display car park - 2 euro per hour.

What a magical place hidden in a small building in New Ross! Unbelievable work by volunteers. They are an amazing group who do such amazing work. The 2 ladies that gave the tour have a vast knowledge of all this work and history.

If you are anywhere near New Ross go and visit and spread the word about this amazing spot.

They need a new premises and should be funded by the Wexford County Council if not the State.

Congratulations to everyone doing such wonderful work

This is a must-see for anyone interested in fibre arts. Having seen the Bayeux tapestry many years ago, this one is much more meaningful to me personally. The volunteers who have donated their time and effort are to be commended.

This is a 15 panel Tapestry exhibition that depicts the history of the area during Medieval period in Ireland. The panels where started in 1998 with over 180 volunteers, men and women from the area working over that period. The final two panels are near completion and can be seen as a working part of the exhibition. You are invited to add you stitch at the end. It is a credit to all the hard work colourful and impressive. For those into tapestry, embroidery or crafting this is a must see!!! The great news ladies the husbands find the tour equally enjoyable for the Knights in armour, the fighting scenes and the link to William Marshal "The Greatest Knight" favourite of Eleanor of Aquitaine. Well worth a visit highly recommended!!

Pretty unique in ireland, this tapestry endeavour is close to completion;about another year left. Most of them are completed. There is an exhibition of them with an audio guide. An actual guide (person) will show you to the upstairs where the remaining tapestries are being stitched. Very friendly welcome and informative of the Norman conquest for those of us who have forgotten the history.

If you are near New Ross, go and see the Ros Tapestry. This is a large scale tapestry which has bee in the making for 12 years. All wonderful voluntary work. It records the history of Ireland from the 12th to 14th century. The work is beautiful. This tourist exhibit needs support to help it to be shown to better advantage.

rostapestry.com This is a set of 15 panels illustrating the Norman history in Ireland and the founding of New Ross, the crucial beginning of Ireland's complex relationship with Britain and Europe. It has been painstakingly embroidered continuously since 1998 by 150 volunteers working at home, often in the places depicted by the panels. We visited during the 2014 New Ross Piano Festival that featured five commissioned pieces by Irish composers inspired by five of its panels, each of which was displayed on stage during the premiere performance.
Purists will point out that this is an embroidery rather than a woven tapestry. Currently (Sep 2014) this is located opposite the Dunbrody ship which is a good visitor location with parking, but squeezed into a small room - I hope they get the funding for a better exhibition space.
To my uninformed eyes the design by Anne Griffin Bernstorff looks rather cartoonish and amateurish, but my artist wife points out that it is Naive Art, a modern evocation rather than an imitation of the style of 12th century tapestries. Do take the audio guide, the A4 sheets beside each panel give only the headline information, you need the background. Even more interesting is the "More info" button on the audio guide - as each Play button automatically moves on to the next panel when done, you need to press the Rewind button to revert back to the previous panel to be able to press its "More" button. The voiceover is in an upperclass accent that embodies the Ascendancy class which the exhibition is concerned with. I don't know the identity of the voiceover actor, but I hazard a guess she was a favourite radio broadcaster, writer, and photographer, now departed.

After this, take the Historic Walking Tour of the town to see how the legacy lives on. Half way through, stop near the 1798 monument (there's a nice French bistro 'Et Voila' nearby) in Irishtown - even that name shows the relationship between the native and the settlers. Near Maiden Gate, where the women of the town built its first defensive ditch, there is a reminder of the excesses of modern times - a large unoccupied house, out of character for the area.

The folks at the Ros Tapestry center are on to something cool! Inside this small building near the Quay in New Ross, is the most delightful exhibition of historical panels. With respect to the story tapestries of old, these 4 by 6 foot panels tell the story of the history of south eastern Ireland, County Wexford, and the town of New Ross. Using crewel embroidery as their medium, hundreds of crafters work together to create magnificent works of art. They use a myriad of colors and many different stitches to depict various historical scenes. There will be 15 scenes in all when completed. In the front room of the building, you can observe a panel in the progress of being stitched. In back gallery, the completed panels are shown. A nice audio guide tells about the historical figures in each scene and explains what is happening. For people who appreciate craft as an art form, the exhibition is breathtaking. We enjoyed this more than we ever thought we would.
