Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

really enjoyed the tour and experience. Its well done and definitely worth the price.
Its very interesting and lovely to be able to walk around the ship and see how people travelled to the US and Canada during famine times.

The tour was really interesting and loved meeting the two characters on board the ship. Was amazed at the conditions they travelled in and loved the attention to detail in bringing the experience to life. We were given boarding passes on entry and I found my bunk in the steerage area (at least I was top bunk). It’s a shame there was no water so we couldn’t have a coffee after although it does few hard to make this comment given people years before only had dried bread. Jack our guide was knowledgeable and gave good insight. Would recommend.

Really excellent. An amazing and realistic look at the journey across the Atlantic during famine times. The boat is real and built exactly as the original. The pre boarding experience is excellent too. Overall a top class attraction and a must if you are in the area. I suggest you book ahead. Nice cafe and shop too.

The museum is super well organized and the tour guides are full of enthusiasm. They tell you the history of the ship without boring you with needless detail and encourage participation. The ship at harbor is a full replica of the original and you get to walk all over it. The gift shop is cute and well-priced and the café upstairs has some amazing seafood as well!

If you have ever wondered what it might be like try to escape poverty and hunger you should visit this. The tour guide was wonderful the realism of being on the ship is something you and your children should see. Yes it is about the Irish and the potato famine but........it can work to educate about those people in today's world facing dire circumstances in their homelands.
The entire facility is amazing.

Would it be possible to travel from Killarney to New Ross by train? Would we be able to walk to the attractions?

Sorry guys - only seeing your question now - Bus Eirean Expressway bus would be a better option from Killarney to New Ross - the train journey is rather convoluted & would involve several changes. Walking to the Dunbrody Famine Ship & the adjacent JFK memorial is fine as they are both on the river Quay close to each other. However, the JFK Homestead is a few miles outside New Ross & would require car/taxi transport. Apologies for the delay in replying.

I'm very interested in locating some of my ancestors by the name of Doran who left New Ross for Canada in 1820-25?
Probably on such a ship in steerage. Any idea whom to contact to ask some questions in new Ross?
Thanks,

Contact the SS Dunbrody attraction, they have a genealogy resources onsite, plus they hold passenger lists for many of the people that traveled from the port. They will also be able to put you in touch with local genealogists. They name Doran is fairly common thought not too common so I don't think you'll have too much trouble finding more information !

It was approx an hour with the guide, video and short performance on the ship and then staying on board to take photos. You can view the reading material in the museum at your own pace.

Can I hire a day tour from my hotel in Dublin? I'd like to spend at least three hours at New Ross before being taken back to Dublin.

hmm....I would think this would be accessible through one of the tour operators, i.e., Hammond Tours, for a day trip, they seem to be quite accommodating, their number is 866-486-8772 - hope this is helpful!
