About
Located in the heart of County Waterford & open year-round, the world-renowned Mount Congreve Gardens are a haven for plant & history lovers alike as well as for those simply looking to relax in nature. Boasting one of the largest private collections of plants globally & described as ‘A Great Garden of the World’ the entire collection features plants from every continent. Mount Congreve House, home to six generations of Congreves, was built in 1760 by the celebrated local architect John Roberts. Inspired by Mr Lionel de Rothschild’s exceptional garden at Exbury in Hampshire, works began on Mount Congreve's Garden in the 1950s by Garden Director Herman Dool. Ambrose Congreve's passion for his spectacular garden is still evident today. To make the most of your visit, we highly recommend taking a guided tour after which you can relax in the Stables Café where you will be served only the freshest of local produce, prepared & cooked daily.

I have been waiting for a long time for the new cafe and gift shop to open,I visited on its first day and it was everything I hoped it would be ,The cafe is lovely the staff really pleasant and the gift shop full of interesting things to buy,, The walk up however is difficult ,we had an elderly relative who found it too steep and very muddy, it would be better if the parking was nearer,

Very convenient to prebook tickets online. Entrance to the gardens was very smooth. The grounds are fantastic. Enjoyed lunch in the cafe. The only downside was to see the house boarded up but hopefully in time we will revisit and the house will be open.

Beautiful gardens. These gardens are filled with hydrangeas. I feel like it is lacking some roses, but that’s personal. The walled gardens are filled with lots of colourful perennials and shrubs. The woodland walks are very plain (lacking colour). It’s mainly just old evergreens or natives and rhododendrons which are not in flower at the moment. The acers are amazing with a great selection. The garden centre at the entrance is quite pricey given that it is gardens, I would expect it to be cheaper then a garden centre

Beautiful gardens let down by lack of signage or labels on trees and plants. Apart from that, a lovely way to spend an hour or too. Not too expensive at €7 each.

We visited on a really hot day but the gardens are so shady that it was a lovely visit. I'd love to visit when the rhodedendrons and azaleas are in bloom in he spring or early summer. It is such a pity that the house is not open.

We didn’t realise what a gem this was until we were there. We spotted it in the train in Kilmeedan. We were there for about two hours and could have spent more.

We got a ticket to the medieval museum and these gardens. Incredible property to go for a stroll on a sunny day!

Has been called "one of the best gardens in the world". Maintenance a little less since the State took over from the Ambrose Congreve, but the flower gardens are impressive. Plenty of woodland to wander through.

Stunning gardens. I would advise simply strolling around and enjoying the gardens without paying too much attention to the confusing map and signage. Perhaps some additional information on plant species would be appreciated by the true horticulturalists, but we were content to stroll and admire the autumnal setting.
