Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Comeragh drive is one of the most under-rated and under-exploited tourist attractions of the South East. It is equally as beautiful as anything you will ever see in the West of Ireland or in Kerry. There are many areas for people to stop off and just ramble around particularly stroll in to the Mahon Falls or the wooded areas.
Definitely an area not to miss.

The Comeragh trail takes you out on the N25 from Dungarvan towards Lemybrien, turn left at the sign for the Comeragh Drive and Mahon Falls. This brings you into Kilrossanty. On the right-hand side you will pass St Bridget's Well. Follow the sign for Mahon Falls. Turn right at the sign for Mahon Falls. After around 1km you will cross a cattle grid and you are entering the Mahon Valley. About 100 metres from the grid you will go down a small slope. There is a large rock saying Magic Road. Drive down to the fairy tree situated a few yards from the road to your left and turn off the engine. Put the car in neutral and handbrake off And the car will travel backwards up the hill with no power! Remember to steer! It’s amazing! I highly recommend you visit. It blew our minds!

We did part of this drive on a very, very, misty day. We couldn't find the Mahon waterfalls- perhaps the sign for the correct carpark was gone, & certainly the views were obstructed. But we did see a rock on the side of the road with MAGIC ROAD carved into in, near the Rag Tree (rather small, woody, covered in hanging 'offerings') We were a bit lost as to where to start, then realized that was the spot where you stopped the car & put it into neutral. Then the car starts going UP the road by itself, gaining some speed as it goes. The car finally stops by a 2nd Magic Road sign stone. We did it with the car turned both directions, & going backwards was really unnerving! We are 2 adults & we were squealing & laughing--imagine kids would really love it! I reckon if the day was better weather wise the views would be gorgeous- as it was it was lovely, with sheep on the road posing for photos, & wildflowers in bloom. I'd say the Magic Road is a must do even on a yukky weather day--it is an experience like no other!

This is an absolutely beautiful drive and should not be missed when you are in the area of Waterford/Dungarvan/Lemybrien. You can begin the drive from a number of places but my favourite is to start from near the village of Lemybrien. Follow signs that say 'Comeragh Drive' OR 'Mahon Falls'. When doing the drive I absolutely recommend that you park at one of the three car parks in the vicinity of Mahon Falls. Leave your car and try and walk for as much time as you have. A walk from the main carpark down to Mahon Falls itself is a must do and this takes about 25 minutes and is absolutely worth it especially after there has been rain for a few days when you will see the falls at her best. It's a fantastic place for a picnic. Views are stunning.
There is a fantastic AppleGreen service station in Lemybrien where you can pick up picnic food or they also have a very good café there if you prefer to sit and eat.
All in all, the Comeragh Drive will provide you with a marvellous few hours of scenic relaxation and outdoor fun.

Do not miss this! The Comeragh Mountains are awe-inspiringly beautiful with changing terrain, fabulous views, sheep are grazing everywhere and Mahon Falls is on the way up and is fantastic to see cascading down the mountainside to the base. Clouds sit on the mountaintops and add to the picturesque beauty of the place.

The coverage drive is beautiful all year round and in such proximity to the beautiful mountains that it's worth parking the car for the day and seeing the scenery from up high. The hills are quite tricky so definitely not to be attempted solo or anyone with disability but if you are able it is an amazing achievement. I walked this with about twenty good friends of mine on a really wet and windy day with extremely low visibility. It was a bit dangerous at some points but that just adds to the sense of adventure one feels. Amazing

All year round despite the weather this location can be magnificent to visit. The trail into the falls from the carpark is easy with just some short steep ascents/descents but perhaps not suitable for those with mobility issues. Even if you do not walk to the falls the views from the carpark on a clear day are fantastic. However a word of caution, in recent years there have been reports of cars being broken into and items stolen as the carpark is not supervised. This behaviour has only occurred when there are hardly any visitors in the area so it would be advisable not to bring or leave valuable items in the car if you do visit.

If you really want to see the Comeraghs up close and have time to dawdle this is the route to take between Kilmacthomas and Dungarvan. It is particularly lovely in Spring and late Autumn and be prepared to stop for photos or just admire the views. Watch out for tractors and trailers.

The magic road is a place I loved to go as a child on Sunday drives. It is well worth a stop off (or roll up the hill) on your way to or around Mahon falls. It is a magical place to bring young and old, and those who are sceptical of such a place. Its amusing and strange how your car will roll up the hill!!

We went on a lovely trip into the Comeragh hills as far as Mahon Falls where we parked the car and walked all the way to the falls and back. Its a spectacular place and well worth the trip.Only one word of caution, the roads are quite narrow and in places just barely big enough for one car. But if you are patient and take your time then navigating the narrow roads is not a major inconvenience.

I'm planning a trip to Ireland this summer, and we love to try beautiful drives with some hiking, but I'm having a hard time seeing where exactly this drive is. I see the Mahon Falls on Google Maps, but I'm confused on what roads are included in the Comeragh Drive. That day, we are starting from Waterford and plan to end up in Cork that late afternoon. Can you give me some direction (road names/numbers) on the route to take? I would so greatly appreciate it!
Thanks!
