About
The magnificent curved facade of the warm butter-coloured stone building draws in the visitor. The eye-catching giant sculpture on the gable was inspired by a tiny 13th century belt mount found in Waterford. It is Ireland’s only purpose-built medieval museum and the only building on the island to incorporate two medieval chambers, the 13th century Choristers’ Hall and the 15th century Mayor’s Wine Vault. Don't miss the stunning Heavens' Embroidered Cloths, Waterford's cloth-of-gold 15th century vestments, the only piece of clothing from King Henry VIII's reign to survive in the world - the 'Cap of Maintenance' and the Great Charter Roll from 1373, containing the earliest contemporary portrait of a medieval English king (Edward III) shown to Queen Elizabeth on her 2011 state visit to Ireland. These and many more unique artefacts await you on your guided tour of the award wining Medieval Museum.

We elected to do the multi-museum entrance package and I am glad that we did. This museum in particular was the best out of all that were included, but I don’t know that I would have separately paid 10 euro to tour this. The priest’s vestments and the translated annals of Waterford book were the most interesting to me. There was a variety of artifacts and each was explained well

Don’t miss this Museum if you’re in Waterford. The displays are really visitor- friendly and the Treasures are exactly that… treasures beyond price from Henry VIII hat to the magnificent charters.

This was one of the museums that you could enter with the package. You can do all of the museums in the day. So much history at each new door. The museum is very modern, but must see the Bishop's robes.

Fabulous design combining surviving features & modern architecture. Simple floor model of city walls very effective. Excellent perspective on early urban Ireland, sharp insights on power dynamics and Hiberno-English relations. The Chart is nothng less than awesome (Dublin, take notice!! you now have a tough act to follow)

Beautiful museum worth the stop. Plan on spending a little over an hour to explore all of the levels and watch the educational video. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable.

The staff in the museums are the highlight of your visit. They are so friendly and helpful. We went to Bishops Palace and enjoyed a tour given by an actor who was very informative. And the glass is simply spectacular. Next we went to the Medieval museum where we learned some very jnteresting facts about the history of Waterford. Included in this is seeing some genuine underground rooms that still remain.

Didn't have to long to do this so just went to the museum. 10€ entry but if you pay 15€ you get entry to all 5 attractions and if you can't do then all in one day you have a year to come back and finish it.

Recommend getting the Waterford Treasure ticket, it gives you access to 5 different museums all nearby to each other. Fascinating Norman history.

Is it possible to gain access to the museum without having purchased advanced sale on line tickets? I would like to be able to decide whether or not to visit the museum when I am there? I don't know exactly what day or time I will be there

Hi guys, it certainly is, you can come to the award winning Medieval Museum or the beautiful Georgian Bishop's Palace at your own time and come in and purchase a ticket. A guided tour is included in the entry fee, or you can take the audio visual guide yourself at no extra cost. I hope that helps!

Will be visiting Waterford only for the day, and trying to see as much as we can while there. Approximately how long should we allow for the museum?

Hi Tazkatza, the tours take about 45 minutes, but allow an hour in your schedule to do each museum.
