Meagher was an Irish rebel and Union general who recruited the Irish Brigade in the Civil War. Interesting to see the connection.

We were visiting on the 170th anniversary of the first display of the Irish flag designed by Thomas Meagher. I did not realize his role in the US Civil War or that he was a former governor of Montana. This is very informative.

What can I say about this statue. It is very nice and well placed, and an important historical figure from Waterford (first man to fly the Irish flag, and fought in the American Civil War), but it doesnt do much. Worth a look

This statue is on the edge of the main area right near the Viking Triangle. Easy to see if in this area of town.

Believe it or not, this was one of the must see things on my list. General Meagher is a hero of mine, not just for what he did working for Irish independence, but for what he did in the American Civil War, if something needed...More
