Waterford Greenway is a spectacular 46 km off-road cycling and walking trail along an old railway line which runs between Waterford and Dungarvan. From the Viking City alongside the River Suir, out by Mount Congreve Gardens, through Kilmacthomas, across eleven bridges, over three impressive viaducts and through a 400m long tunnel; with wonderful views of the Comeragh Mountains and Dungarvan Bay.

I have walked here with family members and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. Close to the city and yet in the heart of the country. We walked by the river and had a splendid day. I will definitely return to explore and enjoy this greenway further.

We hired a number of bikes and went on our first family cycle, traveling half the greenway and back, the track is comfortable on road bikes as well as mountain bikes. And very suited to walking too.

Just do this. It's beautiful, enjoyable, exciting, and incredibly well managed and organised. Hire a bike and get the shuttle bus back to Waterford from either Kilmacthomas (half-way) or Dungarvan (full-trip). It's all good but the section from Kilmacthomas to Dungarvan is more spectacular so...More

The heading says it all. An amazing amenity. There are signs every km so you can decide how much further to walk. However, like so many other reviewers , inconsiderate cyclists and dog owners are ruining the experience. ALL cyclists SHOULD have a bell on...More

This is a 46km cycleway/walking trail on an old abandoned rail line. It has bridges and viaducts and tunnels. Fabulous views and it is all on the level. It is well laid out and safe for children. From Dungarven there is a 22km (2 hours...More

The distance from Dungarvan to City on the Greenway is 42KM. I'd suggest that you start in Dungarvan and go as far as Kilmacthomas, have a break in one of the cafes and return to Dungarvan. In my view, this is the more... More

Most of the bike rental companies offer shuttle services but only if you rent off them. It's still quite cheap, €20. They say they can't do shuttle only as they'd need a taxi licence to do so. You could try using the... More
