About
There has been a pub here since 1780, opening onto Holborn Street. The Markievicz Road end was originally living quarters. Thomas Connolly's pub was first licensed in 1861. There's a great account of Connolly's in the book The Irish Pub, by James Fennell and Turtle Bunbury. Connolly's storied past includes at least one visit from Charles Stewart Parnell during the pub's early days, plus Thomas Connolly himself becoming Mayor of Sligo in 1890 (the same year he acquired the premises). The pub was established during a time of plentiful maritime trade; deliveries of rope, linen and tea came into Sligo on ships from all over Europe. There was once a grocer’s shop at one end of the pub – now gone – popular for making sugar, selling tea and bottling whiskey. We're very proud of our history and excited about what next. These days, our pub is best known for its warm welcome, its famous pint of stout, a wide range of premium Irish gins and whiskeys and great Irish craft beer. We bring you some of the best in live music with regular guest performances at weekends and a regular local line-up.

    Not a bad evening
We had a nice evening, but let down when we ordered an Irish Coffee which they advertised in the window. Apparently they had no cream, a lot of tourists will order Irish Coffee so perhaps they should make sure they have cream to make it!! It’s a disappointment for tourists. The band was very good last night.

    Thomas Connolly Bar Sligo
Thomas Connolly is an exceptional bar, if you are visiting Sligo, it is a “must visit” bar. We happened upon it on a visit to Sligo two weeks ago, we were there on a Wednesday night, the atmosphere in the pub was really welcoming and relaxing. The staff behind the bar were more than helpful and very attentive. The jewel in the crown was the live. Music. There was a Trio (O’Dowd Trio) playing, three guitar players(exceptional, guitar players). They were absolutely phenomenal, a very well known local family of top class musicians. The musicality was astounding, fantastic Vocal blood harmonies, and if there is such a thing as Blood Guitar players, they had it in spades. We were absolutely delighted to have happened upon this hidden treasure. We had such a good night, that we called again on Thursday night, and we were not disappointed, great atmosphere, exceptional bar staff and another top class music act, this night it was a Duo, Seamie McGowan and Eoin Troy another hidden gem, another fantastic night. We would highly recommend visiting Thomas Connolly if you are in Sligo on a Wednesday or Thursday. It was so good in fact, that we revisited it again from Dublin this week. Another fantastic two nights. We will be back….

We stayed in Sligo and the front desk clerk at the Glasshouse Hotel suggested we go to the Thomas Connolly, because they just earned an award. Great staff and Irish Whiskey selection. There was also a small live music session going on which made the experience even better.

I know it’s always subjective but for me this place serves the best Guinness in Sligo. Great atmosphere too. Standing room only when we arrived at about 7:30 on a Saturday. Great craic.

Pub was busy and Lively.
Gunness not up to the standard you would expect in this pub.
May have been a one off but Impressions last.

If you want to try something other than the standard Irish Whiskey, this is the place to go. Over 125 different choices. Paul behind the bar will help you find a good one to sample.

Had super hospitality from this really historic pub, which up to 25 years ago had a grocery shop on the premises. Staff were really friendly and welcoming when our group dropped in today. We received a great summary of the history. Really a great place if you are in Sligo. Right in the centre.

How can this possibly be "pub of the year" when I had three whiskeys and the third one was in a slightly differently shaped glass?
