About
There has been a pub here since 1780, opening onto Holborn Street. The Markievicz Road end was originally living quarters. Thomas Connolly's pub was first licensed in 1861. There's a great account of Connolly's in the book The Irish Pub, by James Fennell and Turtle Bunbury. Connolly's storied past includes at least one visit from Charles Stewart Parnell during the pub's early days, plus Thomas Connolly himself becoming Mayor of Sligo in 1890 (the same year he acquired the premises). The pub was established during a time of plentiful maritime trade; deliveries of rope, linen and tea came into Sligo on ships from all over Europe. There was once a grocer’s shop at one end of the pub – now gone – popular for making sugar, selling tea and bottling whiskey. We're very proud of our history and excited about what next. These days, our pub is best known for its warm welcome, its famous pint of stout, a wide range of premium Irish gins and whiskeys and great Irish craft beer. We bring you some of the best in live music with regular guest performances at weekends and a regular local line-up.

Best pub ever

This is one of my favourite pubs in all Ireland. I was traveling to Sligo from Italy with one of my friends and decided to pay a visit to the oldest pub in Sligo. The atmosphere is the real Irish one, the decorations are lovely but what we liked the most was the staff. The owner (we believed he was the owner:) was so so so nice with us, he suggested us to try a cider that we loved and afterwards he gave us some postcards as souvenir to bring home. Thanks again!! Highly recommended!!

Went up to this pub from tipperary with a gang of 13 people glad to meet up after 18 months of hibernation , initially service was wonderful for the 4 hours we were there but on asking for a hot whisky that tasted whisky less, asked manager was there whiskey in it ? Was told yes,but the whiskey drinkers with us could not taste whiskey , considering the amount of mo ey spent in the four hours there ,I thought the bar would listen to my complaint , but instead cost me €4.50 to put a jameson in instead of the paddy that was used ? This is a month on and still irate over the matter ,as we couldn't wait to go back to connollys after having a great night previously , two of the girls were regulars to the pub and arranged for us all to meet up ,and were mortified ,such a shame as the pub is amazing ,but won't be returning again ,

The oldest pub in Sligo-highly recommend it! Lovely warm convivial feel to it- walls lined with photos of lical, historical & dramatic interest.Covid restrictions meant outside barrels & stools & socially distant self contained wooden cabins out the back. Friendly & obliging staff- looking forward to more normal convivial evening post Covid restrictions

What a fantastic Pub - oodles of character - an amazing whiskey list - good selection of draft beer - one of the best pints of Guinness in the country. AND brilliant chatty, helpful staff. Thank you for making us feel welcome - we will definitely be back!

I booked a very last minute staycation to sligo. Searching where to go and asking a few of my whiskey chums they said thomas connolly. Omg they did not disappoint. On trying to boom it looked like was booked out. I tweeted to a response we will fit you in. When I arrived at 8pm the staff knew.my name having never been in sligo before. What a wow factor. Sat to my table all the covid practises in places ordered my food and I was presented with a beautiful whisky by staff. The attention to detail and customer service was second to none. Friendly staff goes a hell of a long way and attentive staff even better. This pace ticks all the boxes so if this way in your travels the this is were you will find the irish welcome you long for

The food from Flipside was superb and staff were great. Clean and all safety precautions were taken, with even hand sanitisers available at each table.
