About
There has been a pub here since 1780, opening onto Holborn Street. The Markievicz Road end was originally living quarters. Thomas Connolly's pub was first licensed in 1861. There's a great account of Connolly's in the book The Irish Pub, by James Fennell and Turtle Bunbury. Connolly's storied past includes at least one visit from Charles Stewart Parnell during the pub's early days, plus Thomas Connolly himself becoming Mayor of Sligo in 1890 (the same year he acquired the premises). The pub was established during a time of plentiful maritime trade; deliveries of rope, linen and tea came into Sligo on ships from all over Europe. There was once a grocer’s shop at one end of the pub – now gone – popular for making sugar, selling tea and bottling whiskey. We're very proud of our history and excited about what next. These days, our pub is best known for its warm welcome, its famous pint of stout, a wide range of premium Irish gins and whiskeys and great Irish craft beer. We bring you some of the best in live music with regular guest performances at weekends and a regular local line-up.

Absolutely horrible experience, if you're from the North do not go here
Dirty glasses and smelly place
We had 2x pints and the "bar manager" told us we were too Intoxicated and need to leave
They wouldn't tell us what we done and wouldn't even look at us when they were throwing us out
We were only there 30 mins and were just out of a restaurant so we didn't even have the energy to be "rowdy"

Overall stinking place - toilets were disgusting and the glasses weren't clean, pints tasted like feet and I witnessed a barman make inappropriate comments towards a woman

Cant stress enough to avoid this place

Great experience at Sligo’s oldest bar. Great staff and friendly people! Paul, the bar tender, was great to talk to and have a great time with!

Has a pleasant couple of pints of Guinness here reading a book while family shopped in Sligo. Patient pouring of pint of Guinness. Respectful. Quiet snugs to read and enjoy a pint. A refuge. Well done. Will be back.

After a pretty ordinary dinner across the river at The Glasshouse...we spied the Thomas Connolly and crossed the river to "refresh". It was Sunday night so we were expecting a couple of "cheeky" pints and then back to the Hotel. This pub has been established in the 1700's...you are struck that probably the difference between drinking here now and 100 years ago is the price of a pint. We settled at the long wooden bar, ( ignoring the little nooks where friends catch up on the local gossip or play cards ) enjoying the comfortable wooden chairs and ordered our first pint of Guiness. We were quickly engaged by a couple of locals who wanted to know "where you from?"...a bit of banter ensued and hands were shaken. I felt "local"...and then WOW...the very traditional Irish Band started up...I gotta be honest..I didnt understand a word they were singing...but the long lost Irishman in me (my mothers side) reared his head and ordered yet another pint...and a Jamisons. Before we knew the front door was locked. I was experiencing my first Irish "lock in"...the authenticity value skyrocketed. We rewarded ourselves with another pint, making it (well who needs to know) # pints. Our bar person Lee Ann had a snappy one liner for every occasion, she skewered anyone who thought they could out banter her with sassy wit. (She really should be Selling as a career...but hey, Thomas Conolly would lose their star attraction. She was ably supported by Paul and Godfrey who, as her sidekicks made a Sunday evening in Sligo extremely memorable.

Proper pub. If it isn't broke don't fix it. Nice pint, good service in a great pub in a top location. What others try to copy.

Don't go there if your in a group..bad experience with group of Friends. First time being asked to leave a pub after two drinks.the bar man said it was house policy by management not to serve large groups of sober people...

Super traditional pub. Full of character. Superb old style fixtures and fittings. Lovely little snugs throughout. Excellent and courteous staff. Super Guinness. You have to visit when in Sligo.

Had visited here when in sligo on a staycation due to my interest in whiskey. It was a wonderful experience then and this time around just as amazing
The whiskey selection for any connoisseur is mouthwatering. Amd pricewise pretty decent. Some local breweries on tap also which were very enjoyable. Last time I made a very late booking for a table and Paul remembered me as soon as I walked back in. Peter looked after me that night so well I stayed much longer than anticipated. I was just enjoying it too much and it was also valentines so interacting with some of the locals and other visitors to the town made it worth while staying.
Introduced to some great recommendations on whiskey and the best takeaway to bring back to the hotel and relax with.
They have thankfully kept most of the team since covid which is lovely to see.
Also for those with dogs it's a dog friendly pub
I did go back on the evening of my second night to enjoy the company again

A fantastic experience. We were anxious about being out with the growing number of cases at the time. The staff couldn’t have done more to ensure customer safety. Signing in, table service and hand gel on every table.

The staff were friendly and helpful. All who served us were happy to chat and make recommendations.

An amazing range of drinks available. Many hot beverages were also on the menu which was welcomed on a cold NYE.

Thank you for a lovely experience.
