A beautiful peaceful place which reminds us of how our faith was persecuted in the past and how the Irish people and their holy priests had to hold secret Masses putting their lives at risk. Hundreds of Irish priests were murdered as they are today in other parts of the world. We do not appreciate our freedom to practce religion enough. The site is beautifully kept, the stations of the cross, the altar and statues are all beautiful. 🔥🙏

A small peaceful place that is perfect for a sit and reflect session. Welcomes all people to make a wish, honor a loved one, pray or to just relax. It does not take long to see, but I definitely enjoyed the stop.

A Beautiful location which is wonderfully maintained. It has a unique sense of history and heritage with the old blending in with the new. The sense of peace is real which can be experienced while sitting beside the flowing water. It is evident that so many prayers, Masses and reflections have been offered here by so many visitors.

This is an utterly unique and powerful place of peace and spirit, a monument to our history, to who we are and where we came from. It is ancient, mystical, beautiful and healing; a place to pause and be tranquil in, to meditate and be in the present moment. I have been going there since I was a child in the '50s, and have a great love for it. I pray at the altar and light candles for those near and dear to me who have passed, and I pray for those who tie their prayers, hopes and suffering to the tree on the steps. It's a place that reminds us of who we are, and that reminder is becoming more and more important in these current times.

But...

Can I please make a heartfelt appeal to those whose responsibility it is to guard its sacred presence, to please, please take advice when considering the addition of items such as the new polished stone stations of the cross and new stone seating and statue surround, which, regrettably, are unsympathetic and insensitive to the ancient, beautiful environment that they have been thrust into by undoubtedly well-intended people. I make an appeal that they be reconsidered.

This is not just a sacred space, it is a national monument of huge historic significance, and should be treated with enormous care. If it is not currently under the care of the Dept. of Heritage, it is a move worth considering. For me, the Holy Well is as significant as Skellig Michael, or New Grange. Its preservation is of paramount importance; there are people with great experience who can advise on how to make such additions, if any are necessary, as sympathetically and as unobtrusively as possible. Otherwise, there is a real danger of eroding that ancient history and precious mystical athmosphere...

The original well and old alter are beautifully rustic and natural and the stting is cool and tranquil. The newer additions of statues and benches are not so sympathetic to the surroundings, nevertheless it is a very peaceful and special place

Went with a pal early one morning. This is an amazingly beautiful peaceful place. The feeling of peace and tranquility was fantastic. It is visually gorgeous with a lovely stream flowing. It has the sense that this has been a place of healing for centuries. You can purchase candles to light at the various altars or simply enjoy the quietness of the place. Oh you will probably need to drive to it but if you do there are stunning roads beside the lake nearby. Enjoy and say a prayer for people visiting (and the odd reviewer)

An unmissable place to visit when in Sligo. Was where Mass was celebrated in penal times so wonderful tradition and now a haven in 21st century. Light a candle and feel yourself calmed by the tranquility and the trickle of the stream.

The well is in a beautiful little area and pours itself into a small stream, you can walk around the area and read the plaques within the grove as well as visit the various shrines. Alternatively it is a great place to sit, relax and reflect. The well itself dates back to pre Christian times, it was a place that Catholics worshipped in secret when it was prohibited to practice the Catholic faith.

This is a delightful place to sit and contemplate. The whole place seems to resonate with calm and peace. There isn't a great deal to see, but that really isn't the point...
