About
The property on Kilbride Street, known today as Hugh Lynch’s, has been operating as a public house since the early 1800’s. In the early 1900’s it was bought by the Williams Group, founders of the D.E. Williams Distillery, and run as a public bar and grocery, along with many other outlets in the Irish Midlands, from which they sold their growing whiskey brand “Tullamore Dew”.Hugh and Mary Teresa Lynch took over the pub in the 1960’s and the front bar remains largely unchanged ever since. The Premises went through a major renovation in 2008 adding a stylish new Bar downstairs and a function room upstairs. It is ideal for a private party and is also used for the live gigs. In 2010 an additional party room “ROUND” in the adjoining premises. The Pub stocks over 50 Irish whiskeys, each one tagged with a short description. The staff will be more than happy for you to examine the bottles before choosing which one you want to taste, or alternatively you can opt for one of the Tasting packages on offer.Hugh Lynch’s attracts a mix of older and younger clients. There is live music in the lounge every Thursday during the Summer Months, a band every Friday and on a Saturday night a local DJ plays a mix of chart music and old favourites to a lively crowd. It has won many awards over the last few years and it’s a great place to call into for a friendly chat and good whiskey during a visit to Tullamore.

We just visited this atmospheric pub in central Tullamore and find it a great place for Whiskey enthusiasts. The pub definitely deserves to be part of "The Ireland Whiskey Trail": a vast selection of Irish Whiskeys, many rare/old bottles, and a competent owner who knows his whiskeys as well as his stories. If you consider yourself to be a whiskey fan, bring enough time (and money) - you won't regret it!

Coining the phrase from a well known lager advert, Hugh Lynch's is probably the best public house in Tullamore. It is one of those pubs that does everything really well. You will not get a bad pint here and the choice is fantastic. Most importantly, the place has a good atmosphere and there is something for everyone. I agree with other reviews that the staff are really friendly and welcoming. I am not a whisky drinker but am still bowled over by the choices behind the counter.

One cannot help but notice that there is always something on at the weekend here and having attended a private party here, I can say that the function room upstairs is the perfect venue. We were certainly well looked after with our own bar!

Had a get together here at Hugh Lynches with our cousins. We asked to have an area that could be reserved for us which we got in a lovely part of the pub. We ordered finger food at 5 euro a head which was the only downside to our night. 5 euro isn't much to pay but the food we got was not in the slightest bit worth it and everyone in the group had the same complaint. There was a tiny cheese and ham bap with relish each about 2 cocktail sausages each 2 spring rolls each and a tiny chicken piece each. The baps went to waste as anyone that tried them didn't like them. There was no where near enough food for the money. They would of been better giving us a few baskets of chips and baskets of cocktail sausages. The staff was lovely and the pub is actually really nice. The only complaint by everyone in the group was the food. If we could get baskets of chips cocktail sausages maybe goujons I would go to this pub again and I would have a function here but I would make it clear that we wouldn't want that kind of food.
