I found myself with two hours to kill in Monaghan town and spent most of it quite pleasantly in this well-kept and interesting small museum. There was the obligatory 1916 Rising exhibition which was well-executed and informative but for me the surprising highlight was local boy Tommy Bowe's 5 jerseys from Ireland's Six Nations grand slam victory in 2014. Well... More

Although we've been to Monaghan twice in the last three years we never considered visiting the museum until this time around. Very glad we finally took the time! The displays were exceptional/captivating very informative for those interested in Irish history. Front desk staff very friendly and helpful.

I thought they'd be too young at 4 and 6 but they were enthused and loved it. The gentleman at the front desk was so nice and friendly towards them. Great free way to pass and hour.

Look no further than this museum, we visited whilst in the Republic in October. really helpful staff, eager to share their knowledge. The lady doing the schools trip about the local hospital was really good as well.

The museum contains all the local history to learn from. It is in a central location to the town, and regularly open to the public, groups and school children. I found it loaded with information, artifacts and pictures.

Set out over 3 floors in a beautiful old building with varying displays, it is a lovely place to visit. Staff on hand to give additional information. Well worth a visit!

A small but well done museum over 3 floors with a great exhibition for the Easter 1916 celebrations. Recommended. Also free to enter which would be a bonus for those on a budget.
