Lovely forest park but BEWARE of crazy signage!
Sep 2020
Visited Rossmore Forest Park last week and overall was very impressed with their lovely walking trails... but I have to say there were a couple of things that I wished I had been aware of prior to our visit! Firstly when you drive through the main gates there is a small parking area on the right....this is NOT the main car park. Keep driving straight and you will arrive at a very well maintained car park with picnic tables and an excellent play area for children. Also, don't be fooled (as we were) by some bizarre signage! One particular direction sign says ACCESS FOR ALL ROUTES and points to the left. This is NOT directing you to the different walking trails, the majority of which are accessed from the OPPOSITE side of the car park. We were totally fooled and followed this sign and spent the next hour wandering around muttering to ourselves 'this can't be right'! Apparently this sign is directing you to a particular route that is ACCESSIBLE FOR ALL ie. walkers and cyclists!! Get it....'Access-For-All' routes!! (Note to Monaghan County Council....remove this crazy sign immediately!). The Castle Trail is gorgeous and has a real magical quality. When you enter it, turn LEFT (ignore the over large sign with arrow pointing right....this is a sign for Coillte: Forestry Department) following the BROWN arrows and it leads to a fantastic walk by the river, past the walled garden ending up at the site of Rossmore Castle....which must have been magnificent (Google old photos) in its day. Follow the steps down to the lake and keep an eye out for the amazing Giant's Head! We'll definitely return!

Lovely place to visit
Jul 2020
We brought a picnic with us to Rossmore Park, plenty of picnic tables right beside the playground. The children really enjoyed playing there.
We then went for a short walk around the park.
Would highly recommend a visit here.

Well maintained and multiple forest paths on which to walk, jog, run. Excellent playground and environment for kids including some surprises! Beautiful scenery when the sun shines, ample parking

Great parkrun location
Jan 2020
Gorgeous park, with designated parking areas and lovely route for Saturday morning parkrun. We were visitors (both to the town and the parkrun) and everyone was so friendly and welcoming! The park is really well maintained, very clean, and suitable for all the family!

Great new park
Aug 2019 • Family
Lovely new play park and great for kids and then great walks around park so plenty to do. My kids from 8-12 so prob better for younger still we were there for a couple of hours. Hard to eat with insects but that to be expected in forest with lakes.

Fantastic new kids playground
Aug 2019
Blown away with this playground - play equipments like slide are very cleverly blended in with nature, using log slices on embankment as steps. Some unusual stuff as well like a giant, wooden head where kids can climb into the ear and out the mouth and swings on very long chains, but made safer with high embankments at front and back - ingenious.
Also large area at the side with picnic benches and plate for BBQ.
Only thing missing is bins.

Good playpark and walk
Jul 2019 • Family
The play park is very good. Some of the ideas are good with just using tree trunks. Nice walks but started out on one trail and somehow ended up on another so we were walking for nearly 2 hours but it was a lovely day so we didn't mind. Complete shortage of bins. We had to take our rubbish home with us. No locks on the toilet doors and with the toilet roll not in a holder the bottom of it wasn't clean. We will go back though as is free.

Very relaxing walk and brilliant play area
Jul 2019 • Family
This is a great place for a relaxing walk and for the kids to play. The playground is brilliant. The picnic area is great but you're hounded by wasps which we know isn't something anyone can help it's nature. My one and only complaint and I hate making it as everything is free, is the state of the ladies toilets. They are rotten. No toilet seats, loo roll just placed on the floor and just generally dirty. I totally understand this is s reflection on the people using it too but this would be my only wish for improvement. will definitely be going back though

a bit underwhelmed!
Jul 2019 • Couples
Could do with more signage to get here, or visible signage if it IS there somewhere! I asked at a local filling station and even they didn't seem to know exactly where the forest park was!! One person directed us to a kind of back entrance where we could have parked (apparently) in front of a few houses, and walked in that way, but as tourists to the area, we preferred to find the main entrance, which we found by ourselves eventually, using a map.
Seems popular with families and lots to amuse children, play park with climbing frames etc. Pleasant forest walks ... but will I go back? hmmm....not so sure it's all THAT interesting, tho maybe we didn't see it all!
We didn't use the public conveniences, so cannot comment on that.

Great but ...
Jul 2019 • Friends
Enjoyed the natural beauty and setting of Rossmore Forest Park and the obvious care and attention.
The venue’s only public toilet was a very bad experience. The facilities were very neglected and not maintained or serviced. All visitors may require access to toilet facilities and so hygienic, clean and well serviced facilities should be a priority.
