I absolutely adore this place! Very informational and has so many firsthand artefacts; it's basically the whole town of Westport in a nutshell in a single room. It may seem small, but it's filled to the brim with history - well worth the very small entry fee. I'd also love to thank the lady who was working there the day I visited - not only was she a fantastic storyteller with great knowledge of the area and a very friendly attitude, but she was also kind enough to help me get a lift from the center back into town.

My favourite part of the visit was seeing all the stuff from the war of independence, I never knew Westport played such a big part, wonderful museum like going back in time , lots of quirky stuff , from my grandmother's time , and there is also a part where you have to guess what certain objects are , it's a fun friendly museum and the volunteers are lovely people

This centre is well worth the walk down the quay side. We visited on a wet day and were welcomed in by a friendly volunteer. Standing around a model of the Clew Bay & Westport town area, the lady volunteer immersed us in the voyages of Grace O Malley the Pirate Queen, the Brehon Laws & how Westport town came to be were it is situated today. We then went on to looked at the many fascinating items on display around the museum which were presented in an interesting way. The display cabinets were beautiful pieces of furniture in themselves with their own history. Definitely worth visiting Clew Bay Heritage Centre before walking around Westport town & park, or even after seeing town.......but you will want to visit town again to see it with your new found knowledge.
