Kayaking was the highlight of our holiday. Thanks to Luke who has the prefect calm demeanor, great personality and most importantly the experience to instill confidence and make the experience safe, fun and fulfilling. I would highly recommend the kayaking experience it’s a great way to experience the freedom of the sea and outdoors. If Luke is your guide you will not be disappointed he made it such a great experience for complete novices like us, he is such a great instructor and a really interesting guy. Thank you to Luke for a terrific kayaking experience. We will definitely be back.

We got great service from Paul who sorted us out with bikes that were like armchairs. They were Dutch bikes with easy gears and very well presented so our family of 3 kids and 2 adults were left feeling exhilarated afterwards instead of tired out. I woudl highly recommend them.

We rented two bikes in February from Clew Bay bike rental and had such an enjoyable day. The service was super , we got the shuttle bus to Achill sound and cycled back to Westport . Great activity to do and there is lots of beautiful scenery as you cycle . Would recommend to everyone!

We hired two bikes to cycle the Greenway from Mulranny to Achill and back. Great cycle route but the quality of the bikes made life difficult.
One of them the chain dropped on to the spoke side of the cassette repeatedly. This should not happen if the gears are set up properly and can cause a serious accident. It was very difficult to try and put the chain back in place and left us covered in grease.
The other bike had no brake pads. They were worn well below the tread to the extent that the brake pad housing was rubbing on the rim of the wheel. I did not feel comfortable with the brake power. The gears on this bike were also extremely stiff, it was difficult to change gear and the chain was skipping constantly. I had to reach across with my right hand to change the gear on the left side as it was so stiff!
The two people in the place in Mulranny were lovely but the bikes are in dire need of a decent (any) service

Many thanks for your response.
Firstly I would like to thank you for the feed back regarding our service.
I would like to apologies for the chain coming off of the bike, and would also like to remind you that we had mentioned that if there were any issues what so ever to contact us as we have a service van on call all day, which would not have left you with greasy hands, that is our job and we enjoy doing it.
I am very suprised that the brake pads were not up to standard as we service the bikes before and after each use and with the times that are in it sanitize them also before and after . I am sure you would have noticed our strick safety procedures before you departed.
I am also suprised with your attention to detail that you had not managed to notice the "issues" before you departed and after the trial run to make sure that you were happy with the quality.
We offer a free breakdown service to take care of any issues that arise on the trial. Unfortunately you did not take us up on this offer on the day.
I hope that you might give us a chance again in the future as we have been working very hard during these troubling time.
I am delighted that you enjoyed the Greenway, and hope you can enjoy it again in the future.
Contact us if you would like recommendations on other service providers.
Many thanks agian for the review.

We rented two bikes last weekend, one of the bikes the brakes were not working properly and caused my friend to tear her arm against a wall whilst trying to stop. A lot of the gears were not working and the saddles were very torn and damaged. When we finished our cycle we rang for the shuttle service only to be told then they were not running it, guy I spoke to wasn't overly concerned as to how we were going to get back till I pressed the matter, eventually he organised a taxi which we had to pay an additional ten euro per person.
So in my experience I'd use a different company if returning to the area.

Stopped in the Westport location and after a brief chat, we drove to the Mulranny location to rent bikes and headed to Achill Island. 30 miles later, we ended up tired but thrilled with our experience. The bikes we rented were in excellent shape and the service at each location top notch.

Hired an electric bike and it is the best 50 euros I have spent in ages. Picked up the bike promptly at 9am from Westport, and the young lady very helpfully went through how to work it, make sure seat height was correct and even attached a waterproof bag for all my bits and pieces. Armed with a map of the Greenway, provided by the bike hire shop, I cycled to Achill Island and back, stopping in Mulranny for lunch - c84km round trip and the bike was brilliant. A very good service and very helpful staff.

We are a family of two adults and two children with all of us being novice cyclists. It was a challenge but very manageable with breathtaking scenery. My nine year old did have a run in with a wall which resulted in a broken brake cable but Gerry was very understanding. I would absolutely recommend this bike hire.

We booked our bikes in person in Westport and collected them the next day in Mulranny. We had a group of 4 adults and 5 teens. The Clew Bay staff were very helpful and gave us saddle carry bags for our gear to save us using rucksacks. Bikes were in good order, helmets provided and thankfully we didn’t need roadside assistance but was good to know help was only a phonecall away if needed.
We were blessed with glorious weather which was a bonus. There’s a good SuperValu in Achill for snacks or we got a lovely lunch at the Achill Sound Hotel (on up past SuperValu in the village) and made use of their toilet facilities! A good craft shop beside the hotel and also a chemist further up. A great day out to Achill and would highly recommend Clew Bay Bike hire.

There was only one person front of house when we arrived and consequently we were left hanging around outside for at least 15mins whilst the sole employee on duty answered calls. Hired 2 bikes. Male/Female. The state of them left a lot to be desired. The chain and cassette were definitively lacking in cleanliness not to mention a clear lack of lubrication unless orange coloured chains are the latest craze?? The lack of maintenance was made evident when attempting to change gears, to say they were tight would be an understatement.
On the plus side the Greenway is literally up the hill and you are on it, very easy to follow/navigate and well worth the adventure.
To summarize: Shop around Westport, there are a few more bike hire options. Being a seasoned cyclist who takes great care of his own bikes, I was appalled at the state of these. If you can take your own helmets

Hello Andy,
Many thanks for you review. Firstly, I would like to thank you for using our service. Due to COVID-19 social distancing regulations we only allow 1 group or family in the shop at a time so apologise for any delay you might have suffered waiting for service.
In regards to the condition of the bikes. I am acutally suprised to hear that as the bikes are completly service and sanitized both before and after each use. As a regular keen cyclist I am sure your bike is in fantastic condition and well looked after. I do alot of snowboarding and sometimes would not be as happy with a rental board as my own, but at the end of the day they are hire bikes and not carbon fiber racers.
I am deligheted to hear that you enjoyed the greenway and would agree that is truly is an amazing cycle.
I hope to see you again in the future and truly hope that you can enjoy the trail again at some stage.

Is it possible to cycle from Westport to Achill and get shuttle Achill-Westport?
Written 9 August 2017
100% yes. Lots of bike rental companies shuttle both ways.

Is there much difference between the kona premium and the standard mens bike? Im not a regular cyclist and trying to decide if its worth paying the extra - want the ride be as smooth as possible, just wondering if anyone has used the premium bike. Thanks a lot

If I'm honest with myself I'm not in the best condition that I've ever been in and I managed to do Achill to Westport quite comfortably on a standard bike so I think that if you have any level of fitness the standard bike is adequate.

Hi, Would it be possible to kayak with my 6 and a half year old in a double kayak? If yes, then please can you provide details on options. Thanks.
Written 30 April 2017
Hi Julie,
We have sit on top double kayaks that would work, but we dont start with those until July at Old Head Beach about a 10 minute drive from town!
Our sea kayaking tours are for 14yrs plus.
When are you coming for a visit to Westport?
I hope this helps!

What are bike hire options for an 11-month old child? Do you have baby seats that attach to an adult bike? And if so, are they attached at the back of the bike or right behind the handlebars?

Hi,
My wife and I are hoping to visit Co Mayo and would love to cycle part of the Greenway. Can you give me a ballpark idea of hire charges per day for two bikes? We live in Sydney but are originally from Dublin so we know Ireland well!
Thank you,
John
