Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

I was in Westport for a few days with my family and fancied a few decent pints of Guinness. I have been to Westport loads of times but for the life of me don't know why I hadn't called in here. Been to all the other bars on the street. So called in on a wet Thursday afternoon where a few locals were having a few pints and a yarn. John the barman was quiet but friendly and served one of the nicest pints of Guinness I have had. The pub is very quaint but not in any way hokey. You know this is a proper pub where locals would go. I had a bit of a chat with a couple of the men there and had couple more Guinness before reluctantly having to go. Great bar and I hope to get back soon.

Made it our guilty pleasure while having a short break in Westport. Out for a walk? Sure you'd be gasping on the way back. So many places claim to do a great pint of Guinness while this little bar just gets on with serving exceptional ones. These little authentic throwback bars are what Ireland used to do best. Great value too after rip off Dublin. I'll miss it.

How pubs used to be. Great pints of Guinness and lovely atmosphere for conversation. What’s not to like they sell pints, crisps, chocolate and if you short supplies you can do a small shop before you go. Brilliant

Hard to know what to
Make of this place . On one had hand a Lovely old worldly charm pub which takes you
Right back to ireland in the 30s and 40s.

on the other hand a bar tender with zero people’s skill. Maybe that’s a throw back to the 30s as well ?

We arrived in early settled in, no one else
In the pub, and had the craic , plenty of drink, conversation and fun…

But the Bartender wasn’t having it.

Did he take payment? Yes , and continued to do so , fairly cute that way
Did he make conversation? No
Did he lay down the law when we got a bit loud? Yes in fairness he did
Did he alienate 15 lads who were having fun, causing no issues , spending the cash? 100%

So
In summary, a lovely pub, great Guinness, let down by a really poor barman, who doesn’t know how to work a crowd.

If mayo gaa were lucky enough to win the all Ireland in the next few years, this would be the place to skip on the celebration tour …

I doubt I’ll be back

Don't let the outside fool you with the narrow doors and groceries in the front of the store. Keep walking back to the bar and you will be rewarded with the freshest pint of Guinness you've ever had complete with the perfect creamy head. We had six in our group and after two weeks of traveling all around Ireland, including the Guinness Storehouse Gravity Bar, we voted the pint we had at Moran's as the BEST in our travels. The locals at the bar were friendly & talkative. Well worth a visit. Sláinte!

Without fail, Moran’s serves up the best pint of Guinness in Westport. There’s just no beating it.
As for the bar itself, it’s an absolute gem of a pub. Proper old school Irish bar, small bit of groceries on the right as you walk in, small bar in the first half of the pub and a slightly bigger lounge through the partition in the far side of the pub.
You’ll always get a good vibe and atmosphere in here, fine mixture of locals and visitors who like a decent pub. Never waiting to be served, in the summer you can spill out into the street and enjoy your pint standing outside.
If you’re in Westport, go here. All I can really say about the place! Enjoy.

For a "real Irish pub" experience, you can't go wrong here. And they serve the best Guinness in Ireland (according to Stephen on the Walking Tour!!)

This is a fantastic little pub on the main street. Very deceiving when passing & when you walk in initially, however, it is quite big inside once you go through the second door. Great atmosphere - oh and good for those who forgot something in the supermarket. This pub has it all.

Our hotel receptionist in Westport recommended Moran's to us for a decent pint of Guinness and she was not wrong! First impressions can be deceiving as upon walking in you are greeted with a 'shop', with the bar itself being found behind the double doors.

As two females, this bar could have been quite intimidating as it was pretty quiet only for the locals lined up at the bar and the horse racing on tv, however we had no issues whatsoever, with the locals even reminding each other to 'mind their language'!

If you are after an absolutely cracking pint of Guinness whilst in Ireland then I implore you to visit this pub. We headed to Dublin the next day, had a pint at the Guinness Factory and still both agreed the pint at Moran's reigned supreme. I can't really compare it to any of the Guinness's I've had in England as they would never match up to the real stuff in Ireland anyway.

If you're after an authentic Irish pub with decent beer and locals that don't seem to mind tourists then get yourself to Moran's.

We're Moran's ourselves which is why we decided to stop in. We were looking for the soul of Ireland and found it The patrons became instant friends. Johnny, the proprietor, even sat with us a bit. We could not have had a better experience. Oh,and the pints were nice as well.
