Signposted fascinating selection of ancient monuments i never knew of in many previous trips around the area. Bought a book for 10 euros which has dreadful directions and no more information than on the sites but finally found most of them. See the Bohane Stone and it's backyard site to really appreciate the living history of ireland!

Vandals or perhaps locals have twisted the signs at site 2. Go south on N59 about 8klicks when you pass the kennel take the next left to Bohea. The society bought the property so you are not trespassing. The road is wide enough for two snakes to pass but not much wider. Took us three tries to find but worth... More

This is located at The Quay in Westport (we walked from Westport to it , approx 20 mins) and could be easily overlooked. The sign is close to where the Tour Train operates. It's a small building crammed with memorabilia of local and national history back to the last two centuries. You can view old domestic and industrial implements, the... More

We kept seeing the signs for the Clew Bay Archeological Trail, but couldn't find more information. Finally found their website (hidden under someone's B2B site?) and searched for the Clew Bay Visitor Centre, but never Open? Also local Visitor centres were all out of the Trail book to use as a Guide. We followed signs between Westport and Louisburgh, but... More

The sights described sound really amazing. I was sooo looking forward to this. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be. I am an accident waiting to happen in a right hand drive country, so we relied on public transportation. Got to Westport by Bus Eirann fine, then went in search of 'the book'. Tourist shops barely knew what I was... More

What a little gem of a museum this is. We would not have known it existed had we not seen it featured on Mayo Matters. It is run by Westport Historical Society & is full to the brim of interesting memorabilia. Well worth a visit.

The centre is such a real gem for Westport. The first impression, from the outside, would not lead one to expect exactly what is on offer, but this centre, located at the old Westport Quay, is truly worth a visit. The lady who showed us around was really well versed on the history of Westport and the Brown/Altimount estate of... More

We drove along the trail and stopped and looked and read all the plaques. If doing it over, I would buy the book available in the bookstores beforehand.

Lovely walk around Clew Bay with the small islands around the bay. Great views from up on Croagh Patrick, if you manage it!

Take the ferry in the late afternoon. The sun will behind you, and not so hot if it's a sunny day. Beautiful and breathtaking. Makes for a romantic and fun journey.
