Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Unique. It is heaven for a Guinness drinker. It is full of locals as they know the town and the best bars. Mick is always on hand brings out the most unusual food platers on Friday evenings (I will say no more - you just need to go and see and taste)

We went to Mick Byrne's bar in Castlebar on a Friday night in mid May before a football match in the town. The bar is on the Main street in the town. On the night in question the main man, Mick, was on duty and certainly knows how to run a bar. He was very witty and had time for everyone. The drinks were very good as was the ambience. Snacks, black and white pudding and cheese were also served free of charge, which is a great touch. The bar is very clean and tidy as were the toilets. We had a very enjoyable night, added to by the "man himself" and I would highly recommend. We'el be back.

If you want to visit an old, authentic, Irish pub in a small town with locals, this is the place. It is not a big place and there were about 6 gentleman in the pub watching the horse races. Very friendly people and Mick was very friendly. Good luck understanding half of what they say once they get going, the accent is thick and they talk very fast. This is a cash only bar. If you want to feel Irish for a few hours, go hang out at Byrnes.

Searched this bar out because of the great reviews.
Really pleased we did as we spent some time here every night of our short break.
Michael, the owner, was a fantastic host and we were genuinely welcomed every time. His other barmen were also spot on!
To top the experience off the bar serves the best Guinness in town with some great locals drinking there too, the craic was top draw.

We hope to return in the future.

Found this bar and loved it. The man that runs this bar is just so lovely . What a great welcome . We had great fun and drinks were generous , got some free shots and free vodka and even got a gift of a teacup coming home . Theres a lovely atmosphere and all locals make you feel very welcome. Will definitely return .

Visited this bar recently and can not praise enough. The Fear an Tí, Mick was on duty himself and was the perfect host. Chat, Drinks, Snacks, Taxi organised. This man is a rarity, has a welcome and a word for everyone! Will definitely visit again when we are down that way. Don’t miss out if in Castlebar…

This is a little gem in Castlebar. Mick is the best host ever. He made us feel so welcome as soon as we arrived and gave us lots of tips on places to go for the following day. Also serves the best pint!! A real authentic Irish bar. Thanks Mick.

A few years ago I got off a plane on rugby tour and was brought to this pub where the landlord Mick Byrnes certainly made us feel welcome with a feast of puddings, and countless pints of Guinness. It was a perfect start to a great tour. A few years later I returned to Castlebar for a wedding and once again had the great pleasure of returning to this bar. It is a typical Irish bar which is always well frequented but it is Mick that makes it special. He loves his sport and supports local sports teams (even if he is a QPR supporter). He is happy to engage in banter and made me feel welcome each time I have been in here. The night before the wedding he gave the stag and his party some shots and the day after the wedding he toasted the newlyweds with whiskey. Top pub, top man and will give him my business any time I am in the area.

This is now my 3rd visit to Mick Byrnes bar in Castlebar (living in Galway). We seem to arrive there everytime we have a birthday to celebrate. After a 3yr break Mick still knew us and bought us a few welcome back drinks. He is a gentleman and a legend!! We always have a great time there....looking forward to a couple of more baby Guinness in March.....thanks Mick for looking after us all so well, Pauline, Colette, Erica & Michelle
