The Saw Doctor's song "Will you meet on Clare Island?" inspired my trip to this lovely Island. I did indeed as the lyrics say "take the ferry out from Roonagh and wave all my cares goodbye". We were lucky to arrive on a sunny summer...More

Went out on 10.45 ferry. It's functional rather than comfortable - perhaps a good introduction to the island. Walked west to Cille then up to the col where there's a useful track going off towards Knockmore. It's quite steep towards the top - but the...More

Took a chance on the weather one day while staying Westport and took the ferry to Clare Island. I have to say I was not disappointed although it wouldn't be for me on a dreary day. Not much to do but for walking it is...More

Is there a hill to climb for a view of the Achill cliffs? We are staying in Louisburgh and trying to figure the best place for a climb like that. Seems to far to go to Achill itself, but I don't know. We're looking for something 3 hours return, and not too steep.

I don't understand how to rent a bicycle. Must it be done on the mainland and brought across on the ferry or is there a hire firm on Clare Island? Thank you.
