Not much remains but you still get the impression of the size and grandeur of the place. Its free to wander round the ruins. The Lavbo is very impressive(it's where the monks washed their hands in a symbolic gesture). There is a small museum for a little fee.

Wonderful spot to visit on the outskirts of Drogheda. The kids really had a wonderful time roaming around this old ruin site. It has a little picnic area and car park.

A hidden gem situated in an area of outstanding beauty. If you wish to get a sense of the rich spiritual and cultural heritage of Ireland and/or simply enjoy some peaceful natural beauty then Mellifont is worth a visit. Good spot for young kids (under supervision) and a picnic.

Although what is left of the original monastery is relatively little, the interpretation makes it possible to imagine just what it... More

Stumbles upon Mellifont Abbey sigage and decided to call and experience location. Receptionist was very insightful and gave us a great insight into history and offered to do a personal tour. Weather was surperb and enjoyed the walk around the grounds reading the informative information tablet which where situated along the way.

The abbey is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. It is well maintained and is great for photographers and explorers.
