Magic Ireland
Oct 2019
This is a difficult thing to write about, the magic of Glin castle is not within the normal world of beautiful hotels, I'm not one to believe in magic really, but I did feel it when we stayed here 20 years ago on our honey moon, and its still the same today. It is on a different level, maybe it has something to do with the complete lack of pomposity that makes it so special, this is not just a posh hotel, more like going to stay with a mad Aunty who was married to a shipping magnet, or something like that. Clare the manageress and her staff are efficient and delightful and make the whole stay seem effortless, - thank you all. It might not be everyones cup of tea, but those that get it will be blown away ! ----- Don't go if you want wi-fi, big tv's and hot tubs - - its not for you. If you can feel magic and just relax and let it deliver you to a place that is quite extraordinary then you will have experienced what it is, - you'll never really understand it, - and then again maybe you're not suppose to. The place exudes taste in a way which will change your understanding of taste, not brash or showy offy, things in here not bought on price whether large or small, but bought with love and interest, there are lessons for us all. The fairies will be watching you! So in summary, don't go and don't tell your friends, but this castle was built to entertain and loves the sound of laughter, - you'll never stay anywhere better!! I could go on, but thank you all so much.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What a magical place. A hidden gem which deserves to be much better known - possibly Ireland's best kept secret. Beautiful and romantic house and garden with a fascinating history- lived in by the same family for 900 years. Comfortable, relaxed and... I would say 'homely' but so much more so than my own. A great treat and I hope very much I can go there again. Mark from Notting Hill, London

Glin Castle was the perfect accommodation for a week-long family trip of 26 people, ages 19-85. I think there were 15 bedrooms, which some can be divided into twin beds. Each room had its own shower (and tub). Everything in the old estate was immaculately clean and the beds were luxurious. Fresh cut flower arrangements decorated the rooms from their garden. Meals prepared by Chef John were delicious and included beef bourguignon, seafood arrabbiata, irish lamb stew, freshly baked brown bread and scones, smoked trout, and apple tart. The chef discussed dinner menus with us and accommodated glutton dietary restrictions.

Our family was the only group staying at the Castle and that's what was perfect for us. We felt cozy and comfortable and we're the type of group that likes to have space to enjoy ourselves. We'd wander the grounds and rooms, take hikes in the countryside, walk to the neighboring town of Glin, and sit outside overlooking the Shannon River after dinner to watch the sunset. Everyday, we'd hang-out in the main drawing room, make our own drinks, listen to our Spotify, relax in front of the fire, read and play chess. We felt like we were in our own home (albeit with antiques) and would have been uncomfortable having a 24-hour staff of maids or having to worry about which fork to use. If you prefer a traditional fancy resort with a dress code, then try the 5-star Adare Manor.

Claire, Colm and the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. They helped us arrange events at the castle such as falconry, music and Irish dancing, casino table night, a historian talk about the Knights of Glin, and a whiskey tasting. Every day our family had an excursion to see sights of Ireland (such as Cliffs of Moher, Killarney, Adare, golfing, Foynes, Dingle, Limerick) and we'd be welcomed back to the castle with a small snack, tea, coffee, or guinness. We like to drink and the castle stocked us with a lovely selection of wine, beer, booze and water.

We came to Ireland to celebrate an 80th birthday and 60th wedding anniversary and the hospitality at Glin Castle made the events even more special. We will never forget the experience and friendly people at Glin Castle. Sláinte!
