Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Fantastic tour of Adare Castle Co.limerick. Mary our tour guide knew so much and was a pleasure to listen to.
We booked it in the Heritage Centre and were picked up there.
Really enjoyed it.
I'd highly recommend it.

We saw several castles while in Ireland, all of them wonderful. My two sons, aged 9 and 12, loved Adare Castle the most (and it’s probably my favorite too) because of the moats, dungeon, portcullis and seeing where a drawbridge used to be (now a sturdy bridge for visitor safety). Our tour guide, Mary, was very knowledgeable, friendly and engaging. She gave my youngest son a foam sword and shield to wear in the castle - he was very excited about that.

After visiting the castle we walked around the adorable town of Adare - thatched roofs and all, and had a lovely lunch at the historical courthouse. It’s now a restaurant but the upstairs is a museum. A perfect little day in Ireland!

Please note: you can’t just go to the castle for a tour. You have to buy tickets at the Adare Heritage Centre and they drive you to the castle from there.

Tours to Desmond Castle are available through the Adare Heritage Center for 6 Euro per person. OPW is in the process of restoring the ruins. When we visited in July 2008, new entry door gates had just been installed and the tour guide told us that a new draw bridge would soon be installed. Definitely worth the visit!

Took the guided tour and learned so much! This is a beautiful and well maintained castle, and the tour groups are perfectly sized. We have been to many other castles on our trip and this one may go down as one of our favorites! Not to be missed! Travel tip: spring for the OPW Heritage Card if you’re going to multiple sites as it makes the tours free. For our family of five it ran just over a hundred bucks USD and paid for itself around our third site. :)

We visited here on Tuesday on our way home from Killarney. Booked in for the 4pm tour in advance online. Got tickets on arrival, bus left promptly at 4 o clock. Well-restored and impressive castle remains. Beautiful views. Really interesting and entertaining tour provided by very enthusiastic and engaging tour guide. She really went to great lengths to make the history of the castle come alive. We felt really privileged to have had her as our guide. She also gave additional info on what to see in Adare and how to take the river walk to the protestant church. Adare is just a little gem in Co. Limerick. Highly recommended. Many thanks for a wonderful pitstop :)

Adare Castles was not on our list of must-see places, but ended up being one of our favorite stops in Ireland. The castle is only accessible through the tours at the Adare Heritage Centre. We were able to book online the night before (20 Euros for a family of five). The tours are small (11 on our tour) and take about an hour. Our tour guide, Sandra, was informative, funny, and personable. On the short bus ride to/from the castle, she gave us so much information about the village that we spent the whole day exploring. We highly recommend it.

I'm in Adare (and thus glimpse the castle in passing) a couple of times a month, in season, but usually our time there is brief. Yesterday I had the luxury of over an hour, so took advantage of it to get on the guided tour of the castle, which cannot be accessed otherwise. So glad I did! It is much bigger, and more complex, than it appears from the road, and our guide Vera brought each of its components to life. This is an hour very well spent indeed if you like castles and imagining how people lived in them. Note, not suitable for the mobility impaired or pushchairs, and you'd want to keep a very tight rein on children as it's right on the river. Also, the accompanying photo here is of Adare Manor (a nearby five-star hotel), not the castle, which is a ruin, but a lovingly maintained one. - Tickets, and shuttle bus, from the visitor centre (which has food and toilets), in the heart of the village. It will cost you €6 (€5 seniors, students) and you're there and back in an hour.
