About
The Watergate Theatre, located on Parliament Street in the heart of Kilkenny, is Kilkenny's civic theatre, having opened its doors in 1993. We have a year round programme of local, national and international theatre, opera, live music, comedy, youth events, workshops and much more. Our 324 seater theatre is complemented by our upstairs gallery and bar space, serving wines, teas, coffees and snacks during show time. Our upstairs gallery space is also used locally for launches and receptions. Still to come in 2015 we're looking forward to welcoming Opera Theatre Company back to Kilkenny with this year's Kilkenny Arts Festival, we'll be joined by a host of country music stars along with Irish artists Declan O'Rourke, Brian Kennedy and more.

We perform checks on reviews.
Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Enjoyed Ciaran Hinds and company in an excellent production of "The Soldier's Tale" in the magnificantly modernised former cinema. A lovely performance space and so perfectly brought back to its original glory.

Great location for intimate or larger audience. Plenty of nightlife and restaurants in the vicinity and in the center of Kilkenny City.

Visited the Watergate Theatre for a brilliant concert. Lovely place. Intimate, immersive setting; really enjoyable to be so close to the music. Great sound. Friendly staff with a genuine welcome. Refreshments are available 10 yards across the road at 2 great pubs; The Pumphouse and John Cleere's. (Lovely food too!) Lots of choice in nearby places to eat. Enjoy!

First time we've been to an irish concert, tonight with a double pack of Mcevoy & Usher. We'd expected more spontaneous excitement among the audience which simply hadn't occured. Although verybody seemed to be satisfied with the artist performances afterwards. But the narrow seating had killed at least our thrill!

It's a small town theatre without a big program, depends onlocal and travelling companies, a few local productions that can be enjoyable if you know the background to the material. There was a row recently over the corrupt appointment of the theatre director.

Friendly staff. Its a small theatre but very nice. Seats are comfortable. Armrests are a bit hard. Lots of nice restaurants close by to have a pre- theatre dinner.

Booked and picked up tickets at booking office, which works well. Nice friendly staff, big smiles and very helpful.
We love these old theatres that have been bought back to life, great view of the stage a real cosy feel. Good location for pre Theatre Drink or food, we were given a good recommendation for food at La Rivista. Thanks Watergate

We saw a play here - Trial of Countess Markievicz - during the centenary remembrances leading up to Easter 2016. Great venue and good seats. Great value for the price and an easy walk from our Zuni hotel.
