Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The older bar man is one of the rudest people I've ever met. First HE knocked over my drink and blamed me for spilling it when all my friends clearly seen he knocked it then he threatened to have us removed because we were ordering shots. You'd think with the hospitality sector on its knees pubs would be glad of the business

We were a large family group covering a wide variety of ages.
The food was awful and the service worse. Some of the party had eaten their first courses by the time the last one arrived. Waiting for all to arrive would have meant letting most of the food go cold. Main course quality and service was no better. 3 bottled drinks of different types were past their best before dates. When we complained, Manager was rude and refused any discount. Blamed staff shortages for issues.

Had a meal here one evening with friends. Staff had a mixed bunch of lovely friendly people and others who shouldn’t do hospitality!!.. the food was very poor and just about edible - expensive for what we got . There are many many far better places to eat in Kilkenny than here. I doubt if I will return

A very lively spot and music playing and loud, boisterous crowd. Understaffed and no regular cleaning. While we were there, mandatory masks weren’t enforced, drinks had to be ordered via the bar and no social distancing was in place. This didn’t really bother us though and it was nice feel normal for a change.

We were staying in Kilkenny for 3 nights and sadly we only stumbled across this bar on our last night. Really cozy atmosphere and very attentive and friendly staff. The gentlemen who were working looked after us and nothing was a problem. Live music was excellent. Will definitely return and would recommend.

Came to Breatnachs looking for a Sunday roast and needless to say we left extremely disappointed. Everything tasted of garlic, left a full bowl of soup as it was like eating garlic butter, even the bread was stale. Main course was no better l, again Everything just tasted of garlic. Told staff member that the food was not nice and she just replied with okay, asked did we want anything else and we said no, got the bill and no discount offered even for the food we could not eat. Would not recommend

Went here for my birthday meal. Had prawns to start which were fine. Chicken Alfredo for main which was awful I'm afraid. Presentation was so bad. So much sauce it was dripping over the edge of the plate. My fork wouldn't go through the potato cubes as they were rock hard. The whole thing overwhelmed me and i left 90% of it . It needs to be presented differently instead of all just thrown on the plate. My partner ordered the roast chicken and only ate some of it and didn't touch the rest which is unusual as he is a real foodie. His chicken was too dry and chios were undercooked. A disappointing birthday meal unfortunately. Our server was a lovely girl though.

Really lovely bar. Really clean with a cosy, old world feel. Food was excellent at a fair price. The bar tender Olga was really lovely, friendly and pleasant with a lovely warm personality. All in all an excellent visit.

Four of us went to this bar for lunch and ordered the daily special which was chicken and pork roast . It was so bad I asked the waitress if it was even cooked today or was it yesterday's leftovers that had been reheated . We are in our 70s and I think they thought we were tourists who would never be back but in actual fact 3 of us were local people . The waitress apologised and offered us free teas and desert . When I asked for the bill they charged for the latte as they were only offering free teas . Never again . The only reason we tried it was because we got parking right outside the door . The chicken wings I got for starters were so crispy and dry they must have been deep fried . The soup was salty . I felt sorry for the waitress as the manager did nothing to support her and made no comment when I complained . Probably he is used to complaints

After searching most of Ireland for a decent dirty martini I finally found it here. Along with the fish pie this was a solid great place to go. Staff was friendly. All 4 of us enjoyed our meals. Recommend stopping here.
