Go and see the wonderful art on the walls here, there are always interesting exhibitions on. The owner Valerie has a great eye (I bought my first painting from her). Its a really lovely spot to spend time in. Its in a great part of town with some of the nicest cafes and bars nearby as well as Rothe House and Smithwicks brewery.

There's something magical about The Blackbird Gallery. It's setting. Rothe House, its home is a superb piece of history. The gallery is housed behing a stone loggia at its front onto the street. It feels like entering a tardis or a pandoras box - a jewelry box even. Crossing ghe stone threshold. The gallery space itself is on two floors and retains its original historic feel whilst the artworks present the perfect contrast. A well curated cross section of artists, mediums, styles and genres. I thoroughly enjoyed visiting. Indeed Kilkenny itself is the most wonderous of Medieval cities, which thanks tomcareful planning retains much of that historic grain.

I was looking for something specific (a wedding gift) when I visited the Blackbird Gallery recently and was surprised by the collection housed there. The curator was incredible knowledgeable and helpful and not only with a view to making a sale. She’s incredibly passionate about the pieces that are available for sale and I’ll certainly visit again.

We popped in here this morning as we passed Rothe House. Valerie was very helpful & I really enjoyed chatting with her. I ended up buying a limited print by a Ukrainian artist. Definitely pop in if you're in the area.

I love this gallery run by Valerie Walsh and am delighted with the two paintings, by Philip Ryan, that I acquired from her. Her range of original art pieces by well known Irish artists, sculptors and potters is amazing. Well worth a visit.

Paid a visit to Blackbird Gallery opposite the castle in Kilkenny and so glad we did.. Valerie offers works by up and coming artists , presented sympathetically in a bright and friendly setting where all queries are responded to with infectious enthusiasm and knowledge of subject. Great place to pick up a future master ..!!
