Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great guide and saw great sights throughout the city! Really enjoyed seeing the castle and the stained glass in the old church with the unique graveyard steps.

My family only had one full day to experience Kilkenny and thought a bike tour would be ideal to see the sights. Jason, the owner of Kilkenny Cycling Tours did not disappoint! He personally guided us throughout the town. Jason grew up in Kilkenny and brings a wealth of knowledge to this tour. He's fun, personable, and knows everyone! We had a blast and highly recommend this cycling tour when in Kilkenny.

Excellent biking tour through Kilkenny! I went with my Contiki group as part of my tour and I really enjoyed the experience. We split into 2 groups which were good sizes for the biking. It was a great way to see a lot of Kilkenny. The guide was friendly and helpful.

We knew there would be drawbacks to traveling in the off season but that there would also be advantages. Jason, the owner of Kilkenny Cycling Tours, understandably has another gig in the off season to support his young family--he teaches bicycle safety in the schools! Well, the very day we wanted to train down from Dublin to see Kilkenny and take his bike tour he was in another county teaching a safety course at a school. He said he tried to find another guide for us for that day but was unable to do so. We suggested that we start the tour when he was able to even though it was going to be under the threat of darkness as it gets dark at 16:30 in mid November! He was willing to work with us and so we agreed to meet him at 15:15 instead of 14:00 for a tour--getting in as much of the route and sites as we could before it was too dark.
We loved that he was willing to be so flexible! So we met him at our custom tour time and were thrilled to essentially have a private tour on that chilly November day.

Jason was the most personable, engaging, and clear guide we had on our whole trip! He really knew his history and really new...practically everyone in town! It was amazing! He knew this person, and that person, and even pointed out and knew one of the star players on the Kilkenny hurling team--although he was too humble to stop and bask in any glory! Anyway, it was so cool to see that Jason was a beloved citizen and well-respected--people were saying hi to him everywhere we went!

He had a great route for us, from town streets to riverside tow paths, we covered so much more ground than we would have on foot having only one day in the city as we did. One of our favorite stops was the Black Abbey--a church dating from the 13th century! If time allows, stop inside. It was dark by the time we got to St. Canice's church, which was closed at that time, but we enjoyed looking at it through the gates as it and its round tower were very dramatically flood-lit. We made our way back to the starting point and returned our bikes to his storage area. Overall, the tour was made by a combination of the charm of Kilkenny and its surroundings and Jason! He was so engaging with our children (probably because he has children of his own about the same age so he knew how to communicate with them effectively) and we really appreciated that--as did they. Our experience is just consistent with our time-tested travel adage "When a bicycle tour is available, take it!" This rule has always proved true, and this tour was no exception.

If I had to pick my favorite “tour” we did in Ireland, this is number 1 without a doubt! We were lucky and the only couple who signed up on a Sunday in late November. Jason met us and we instantly clicked! He is fun and super knowledgeable about all thing in and around the city. He tailored our tour to our interests and it was an absolute blast! He also directed us on things to do throughout our day and what pubs to enjoy with out such a touristy vibe. Such a memorable experience!!! Must do!!!!

Initially, when I arrived to pick up my day rental, there was no one on-site because of a miscommunication about my reservation. However, I called the number, and they sent someone right away to set me up with the bicycle and accessories, including a bike lock and helmet. They went above and beyond to make sure I enjoyed my ride and to make me feel welcome. I would have loved to do a longer bike ride through the countryside, rather than simply riding around Kilkenny, but I did not have time on this trip. Note that the physical location is a bit challenging to find if you have not been there before.

Jason was great. He helped me plan a route and told me all the best stop off points (and he wasn’t wrong). No problems at all with the bike. I would highly recommend giving it a go.

Ok, this is the FIRST thing I would do in Kilkenny. Oh but what about the Castle, St Patrick’s Church, etc, etc. No I would have FIRST have fun and THEN go do those other things. EVERYBODY in Kilkenny knows Jason! And everybody wants to come up and talk with Jason. Trust me! You’ll want to make this your most important stop in Kilkenny. Fun, history, cycling ….it’s all here!
