Mu husband and I toured the rothe house while visiting Kilkenny city. It was a unique experience that provided a lot of preserved history. The house and garden is beautiful and a true hidden gem within a touristy city.

This attraction is deceptive from the outside as it's much bigger than it looks. The collection of artefacts from the grounds is impressive. The gardens are spectacular and well worth strolling around.

What a pleasant surprise this little hidden gem is. This plot of land was originally owned by Cistercian monks in the 13th century and its still the original size from that time. There are three houses in all that was occupied by the wealthy family...More

Thoroughly enjoyed this interesting house and history. The garden is already lovely but will just continue to look better as time goes on. At 5.50 per person it really does deserve your time. Some interesting finds and donations of items, more would be even better....More

Looks fabulous, but opening hours seem eratic. Couldn't get in to see it but it should be amazing! Very beautiful outside anyway!

Visited the Library to try to research Talbots Inch and the Countess of Desart. Very friendly staff, who did their best to help. Tip: take a camera or phone to take images of any pages as the photocopier breaks down all the time!!

The house has an interesting history and is well preserved. It's a good way to spend an hour or so if you have the time.

The Rothe House is one of many historic sites in Kilkenny. It gives us a good idea of how the merchant classed lived as well as some insight as to how the town was laid out. Lots were narrow but very deep and the gardens...More

The tour through the house is good but the high point is going into the garden at the back. Despite being in the middle of town, it's huge! This is a brilliant restoration (over many years) of an important piece of history.

You will need to slow down and take in everything to make it a good experience there is so much history and the gardens are beautiful. Don't leave without a book.

Allow 1-2 hours, that should be sufficient, but if you are on a whirlwind tour like a lot of Americans who come here, see the castle first, enjoy the touristy shopping mall opposite the castle, the high street and the... More
