The Rothe House Museum and Gardens is located in the heart of Kilkenny.Between St. Canice's Cathedral and Kilkenny Castle. It is the only early 17th century merchants townhouse in Ireland. It was built in 1594. It's educational with lots of historical information. Don't miss the rooftop garden and the ducks.

Los stead right in the heart of Parliament Street, the Rothe House and Garden offers a clear sense for 15th century life among the upper crust in Kilkenny. The stone arched front entrance is quite impressive and sets the tone for the architecture throughout the house. It is worthy of your time if your tour will allow it.

We found this place by accident as we were late for a different tour in a different place in Kilkenny. A tribute to local enterprise, this facility has been extensively renovated in recent years and enables the visitor get an interesting aspect on the history of Kilkenny over the last 200 years.

Definitely worth a look if you are in Kilkenny. We really enjoyed walking around and reading about its history. The garden is fantastic too.

Self guided tour, beautiful traditional house, the real thing, complete with a full history and beautiful gardens to the rear. The owner was rich and played a major part in the town. As a place of meetings and political views contained within these walls. When you walk the mile, don't miss this opportunity to see the past. . .

There are a great number of artifacts that are demonstrated in this house to try and show what life was like. The owner was a wealthy merchant and local politician, well respected by the townspeople. The size is overwhelming for a private residence but interesting in its simplicity. What we marvelled at was the precision of the construction with very... More

This is part of the "Medieval Mile" walk, and we'll worth the small admission fee (I think it was 4 euros) for a self-guided tour. The houses are neat, and have good history), and the courtyards are beautiful, but the garden is AMAZING. I want to live there, garden there, work there, just BE there!

We visited Rothe House and found it a very interesting experience but we felt that there was so much more that could have been done to improve and add to this experience. There has been a great effort to present the historical information to visitors but it needs serious updating to appeal to modern visitors. There could be updated computer... More
