Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It is more interesting from the outside than the inside. The interior of the building is a modern operational local courthouse with not a lot to see as it carries on it's daily business. The outside face of the building does however maintain a sense of age and the lower windows are still barred representing the old jail

This is right on the low road and dates back centuries. In spite of the age it is still in use and is interesting to see.

As you walk Parliament Street, be sure to stop by the Old Jail and Courthouse. The jail in the bottom of the building is interesting. I tried to get a picture inside the jail, but it did not take.

Originally the site of Grace's Castle, built @ 800 years ago and for the last 500 it has been just for a public purposes, including today as the Courthouse.

As with many historical sites, it has a history and we are lucky that is preserved.

Now isn't this just the thing. Read the wall plaque. And stand back and marvel. Firstly how it survived....and in use for so long. Secondly see the elegant lines. Thirdly.... can you imagine the commings and goings to/from this place. And what stories the stones could tell. Seen at its very best under a little sunshine. Well done Kilkenny.

This is really a very large old building that used to be the jail and courthouse. It sits right downtown in Kilkenny centre. There is a plaque to the left of the building that explains it's history. Make sure you read it.

The courthouse was previously Grace's Castle, erected in 1210 as a townhouse for the wealthy Grace family. It was converted to a prison in 1566 and became the courthouse in 1792. Heady history, but unfortunately we had to make do with viewing the front as the building and the modern additions behind are used for sittings of the Circuit and District Courts.

This is one of the stops on the ghost tour. The history of the building is informative when you have a good guide. Thanks "joe"

I would love if this was more accessible and more information available about it. It has a plaque outside but I think that the walls could tell far more given this buildings varied history. It is so accessible in terms of its location that i think it could be made far more of.

The facade of the building is interesting and worth a picture or two. The plaque outside gives a bit of the history of the building. Otherwise the grounds are run down.
